Job Description

Join Southern Orchards Management LLC as a Senior Accountant in Fort Valley, GA. The position offers a competitive $70,000 to $85,000 per year salary and requires a Bachelor’s degree plus at least 4 years of accounting experience.

Responsibilities

Own orchard block-level cost accounting within the ERP system, including source-data capture, coding, validation and reconciliation.
Collaborate with farm management to align operational data with financial records, delivering insight into orchard activities beyond the ledger.
Develop and document cost-allocation methodologies, reporting structures, accounting procedures and supporting controls.
Prepare block-level cost reports and investigate material discrepancies or variances.
Prepare journal entries and accruals, and complete balance-sheet reconciliations to support timely month-end and quarter-end closes.
Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, lease accounting and roll-forward schedules.
Own inventory accounting and reconciliations.
Identify opportunities to strengthen data integrity, documentation, internal controls and accounting processes.
Support audit preparation and sales and use tax compliance.
Provide periodic backup for treasury, accounts payable and payroll reconciliations.

Requirements

4+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience in agriculture, perennial crops or food production is a plus
Working knowledge of cost accounting, fixed asset accounting, inventory accounting and lease accounting
Understanding of U.S. GAAP and sound accounting-control practices
Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work accurately with detailed operational and financial data
Strong documentation and process-improvement instincts
Ability to collaborate effectively across finance, operations and farm management
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
