Job Description

Cooper Norman, PLLC is hiring a Financial & Accounting Services (FAS) Senior Accountant for hybrid work in Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Responsibilities

Act as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned clients and maintain trusted, long-term professional relationships.
Join audit and assurance and client accounting engagements based on client needs, experience, and team capacity.
Lead and perform audits, reviews, compilations, and other assurance procedures, including:
- Planning and risk assessment
- Internal control evaluation
- Substantive testing
- Financial statement preparation
Prepare and review workpapers and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, proper documentation, and compliance with applicable professional standards.
Support recurring client accounting services, including financial reporting, account analysis, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial information review.
Analyze financial results and communicate meaningful trends, observations, and opportunities to clients and engagement leaders.
Collaborate directly with business owners, controllers, accounting personnel, bankers, and other professional advisors.
Identify opportunities to improve clients’ accounting processes, internal controls, reporting, and overall financial management.
Research and resolve accounting, auditing, and financial reporting matters, escalating to managers or partners when appropriate.
Coordinate engagement timelines, client requests, and deliverables to keep work accurate and on schedule.
Supervise, mentor, and train staff accountants and interns with timely feedback and guidance.
Coordinate with Cooper Norman service lines to connect clients with firm resources and expertise.
Build a strong understanding of each client’s business, industry, goals, and challenges to provide proactive guidance.
Build relationships within the Utah business community and represent the firm professionally with clients, referral sources, and business contacts.
Perform responsibilities with limited supervision using sound professional judgment, ownership, and accountability.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
3-5 years of accounting experience, with public accounting strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Management Accountant (CMA) credential, or another relevant professional accounting credential (major plus).
Ability to manage multiple client engagements, deadlines, and competing priorities.
Strong analytical skills and sound professional judgment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with business owners, client personnel, and professional advisors.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with partners, managers, and team members.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other accounting software.
Experience with audit and assurance, client accounting services, or both.

Leadership

Supervise and mentor staff accountants and interns on assigned engagements and projects effectively.

Schedule

Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote.
Typically works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mountain Time.
Additional hours may be required during periods of increased client and engagement activity.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

Primarily a professional office environment using computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and standard office equipment.
Primarily sedentary; regularly requires sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, reaching, and operating office equipment.
Occasional filing and office tasks may require bending, standing, opening filing cabinets, and lifting or moving files up to:
- Up to 10 pounds frequently
- Up to 25 pounds occasionally
Visual abilities required include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
