Performance Pipelining Inc is hiring an experienced Financial Controller / Accounting Department Manager to lead the accounting and financial operations for a $40M infrastructure construction organization west of Chicago. This onsite role in Ottawa, IL blends construction accounting leadership with corporate compliance, reporting accuracy, and hands-on cash and team management.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee corporate compliance, accounting activities, and financial record keeping and filings.
- Manage construction project accounting and job-based financial reporting, including the processes tied to project economics.
- Handle payroll management and maintain Human Resource activity tracking and records.
- Own cash flow management and coordinate banking activities.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial strategy.
- Apply internal financial control policies and procedures to day-to-day accounting operations.
- Maintain relationships with professional service providers, banks, lenders, and vendors.
- Supervise departmental support staff and coordinate accounting support functions.
Construction Accounting Focus
The role centers on construction accounting fundamentals such as job costing, WIP, retainage, and lien management, along with accurate financial reporting and control of project-based financials.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, and job costing.
- Proficiency with construction accounting software, including tools such as Sage 300 CRE / Sage Intacct Construction, Viewpoint Vista / Viewpoint Spectrum, Foundation, CMiC, or comparable platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills, with experience producing financial reporting and dashboard outputs.
- Solid understanding of GAAP, ASC 606, and construction-specific compliance requirements.
- Experience managing relationships with sureties, banks, and external auditors.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an Associate’s degree (or a minor) paired with significant experience in the field.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary: USD 80,000 - 95,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
