Support residents while building your career in a mission-driven public service role at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando Inc. This full-time, exempt position provides one-on-one financial counseling to Orange County residents onsite in Orlando, with a salary of $54,999 to $55,000 per year. As part of the Orange County Financial Empowerment Center (FEC), the Financial Empowerment Counselor helps clients strengthen financial stability through counseling focused on safe banking relationships, increasing savings, reducing debt, and building credit. The FEC is operated in partnership between Orange County Local Government and Habitat for Humanity Greater Orlando & Osceola County (Habitat Orlando), and connects clients with community partners and wraparound supports.
Responsibilities
- Deliver individualized financial counseling through both initial and follow-up sessions, working toward client outcomes.
- Assess client needs and create personalized financial action plans.
- Provide ongoing follow-up to support progress over time.
- Make appropriate referrals and integrate wraparound supports (including benefits and tax preparation) into counseling to strengthen results.
- Follow required protocol and program requirements.
- Collect, track, and report required data using a client management database.
- Participate in initial training and ongoing professional development training.
- Complete and pass counselor training.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, finance, business administration, nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in financial counseling, case management, housing counseling, banking, nonprofit programs, or a related field.
- Bilingual: fluent in Spanish and/or Creole (speak, read, and write) preferred.
- Obtain FEC certificate within the first 90 days and maintain annually (training provided by Habitat).
- Obtain Anti-Money Laundering certificate within the first 90 days and maintain annually (training provided by Habitat).
- Obtain Safeguarding certificate within the first 90 days and maintain annually (training provided by Habitat).

Location: Orlando, FL (onsite). Main location: 4116 Silver Star Rd. Orlando, FL 32808. The role involves frequent travel within Orange County.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required.
Reporting to: Financial Counseling Program Manager.
Classification: Exempt.
