Data Scientist - Engineering & Financial Support

The Data Scientist role at Systems Planning and Analysis (SPA) supports funding and financial planning for a defense manufacturing effort. The position focuses on analyzing complex data, building analytic tools, and working closely with a multi-disciplinary team across finance, procurement, engineering, and scheduling.

Role Summary

In this onsite role in Alexandria, VA, you will apply data science methods to support coordination, planning, management, and execution of robust funding and financial plans. You will develop and maintain analytic tools used across functional areas such as finance, procurement, engineering, and scheduling, while providing recommendations tied to the manufacturing lifecycle and project management.

Responsibilities

• Analyze complex data sets and develop analytic tools to support coordination, planning, management, and execution of funding and financial plans for a defense manufacturing effort.
• Use a technical background and strong computer programming skills to design, implement, and maintain analytic tools across finance, procurement, engineering, and scheduling.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, developers, managers, and stakeholders to deliver recommendations related to the manufacturing lifecycle and project management.
• Provide recommendations related to the manufacturing lifecycle and project management.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or business field.
• Strong internships or 2+ years of experience analyzing complex data sets, developing analytic tools or software, and using coding languages such as Python and PowerBI DAX to address engineering or project management problems.
• Proven ability to coordinate, communicate, and act independently in a dynamic team environment.
• Ability to simplify complex problems, produce actionable recommendations, and independently address analytic challenges.
• Current DoD security clearance with a minimum level of Secret, with the ability to maintain clearance throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with DoN databases such as Navy ERP and Navy NEPS.
• Experience with and knowledge of Navy requirements and program office organizations and processes.
• Experience supporting defense manufacturing, Navy shipbuilding, research and development, defense acquisition programs, or other relevant initiatives.

Compensation

USD 70,000 - 90,000 per year. Virginia pay transparency salary range: USD $70,000.00/Yr. - USD $90,000.00/Yr.
