Senior Manager, Finance Analytics & Automation - Data Analyst (Contract)

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a contract Senior Manager, Finance Analytics & Automation to build automated finance data workflows and reporting that empower data-driven decisions across the finance organization. This six-month hybrid assignment is based in Boston, MA.

Responsibilities

• Designs functional reporting capabilities to enhance efficiency and enable self-service access to key KPIs by empowered senior leaders.
• Supports the finance function's transformation through analytics by identifying data opportunities to address business challenges.
• Collaborates with functional leadership to identify and prioritize major financial analytics initiatives.
• Defines and scopes finance use cases by developing and implementing analytics models; understands business needs and selects suitable algorithms.
• Develops, tests, and validates AI/ML models; deploys them into production and integrates with existing data and IT systems; minimizes bias through cross-validation, A/B testing, bias assessments, and stress-testing.
• Effectively communicates insights to finance stakeholders by building reports, dashboards, and visualizations; employs data storytelling to drive understanding and uptake; explains underlying methodologies and decision processes for transparency.
• Continuously evolves data analysis, visualization, and storytelling processes to improve decision making; advances automation using Power BI, Snowflake, SQL and Python.
• Maintains governance and compliance, ensuring data and algorithms used for key decisions are transparent and unbiased; applies data quality control, validation, and cleansing with the DTE team to meet Enterprise requirements.
• Enhances analytical capabilities to include quantitative and statistical analyses and deliver predictive insights.
• Acts as an inspirational data lead who motivates teams and demonstrates Vertex culture and values.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance or Accounting.
• MBA or professional qualification is preferred; CPA a plus.
• Solid track record in analytics roles with strong technical and analytical skills; proven success in a collaborative, team-based environment or an equivalent education/experience combination; deep understanding of financial systems, analytics, and information visualization; strategic vision for future finance workflows.
• Experience in the life sciences sector is preferred; biotech or pharmaceutical experience is a plus.

• Foundational understanding of statistical and mathematical concepts, algorithms, and data structures; familiarity with linear and logistic regression, regularization, decision trees, clustering, GAM, PCA, and matrix factorization.
• Proficiency in data management, data mining, data analytics, data reporting, and quantitative analysis.
• Programming experience in Python.
• Experience with data manipulation and visualization tools such as Power BI and Microsoft Co-Pilot.

Pay Range

USD 80 to 85 per hour.
