The Financial Controller role at Washington County Mental Health Services Inc (WCMHS) is a key position supporting the organization’s accounting integrity and reporting accuracy. Based in Barre, VT and working onsite, this role oversees core accounting operations and partners closely with the Assistant CFO, CFO, and senior leadership to strengthen trusted working relationships with internal teams and external business associates.
WCMHS has served the Washington County community for more than 50 years, delivering education, support, and treatment for individuals and families facing mental health challenges, substance use issues, and developmental and intellectual disabilities. In this position, you help ensure that financial records, reconciliations, audits, and statements are handled with accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the month-end closing process.
- Prepare for and lead the annual audit.
- Conduct and analyze account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
- Maintain full understanding of WCMHS accounting functions and review, analyze, and verify the accuracy of financial statements and agency documents.
- Attend internal and external agency meetings and represent WCMHS accurately and professionally.
- Administer accounting software management for the agency.
- Run, review, and analyze financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field, with extensive accounting training, plus at least five years of related experience and/or training.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, and make effective presentations to senior management, employees, or funding sources.
- Strong computer literacy including Excel, Word, and Outlook, with knowledge of or the ability to learn Sage Intacct Accounting Software and Paycom HRIS.
- Good organizational skills and effective people skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical.
- Direct supervision experience of the Accounting Supervisor and Accounting Clerk.

Compensation and Benefits
The starting salary range for this position is $107,000 to $112,000 per year, commensurate with experience and education.

Working Conditions
