Saunders Brothers Inc. seeks a seasoned Director of Finance to lead financial operations, shape long-term growth, and guide a high-performing finance team. This onsite role is based in Piney River, Virginia, within Nelson County, and places you at the center of strategic reporting, analytics, and risk management to support the business's ambitions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles.
- Translate financial data into actionable insights for executive leadership.
- Maintain precise accounting across all departments to ensure accuracy in detail.
- Manage inventory valuation and keep financial records robust and reliable.
- Collaborate with external corporate accountants on tax preparation, AUP reviews, and other key financial matters.
- Advise on insurance programs and risk management strategies.
- Lead and develop a finance team including the Controller, Accounting Specialist, IT Specialist, AP/AR Specialists, Purchasing Specialist, and Payroll/HR Clerk.
- Provide a weekly financial snapshot to the CEO and Executive Team that is clear, concise, and actionable.
- Align annual financial goals with company strategy and values to guide future growth.
- Model and uphold Saunders Brothers' core values in leadership and operations.
- Support the organization with additional duties as needed.
Requirements
- Solid expertise in financial accounting and reporting, with the ability to prepare, analyze, and communicate accurate statements monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Strong FP&A capabilities, including budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and cash flow analysis to inform strategic decisions.
- Proven risk management mindset with experience strengthening internal controls and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, advanced Excel skills, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, capable of collaborating with staff, leadership, and ownership while developing a high-performing finance team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business (highly preferred).
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in accounting or finance (highly preferred).
- Minimum of five (5) years leading and developing a team.
- CPA is not required but a plus; tax experience is a bonus.
- Strong organizational, flexibility, and prioritization skills.
