Southern Sandoval Investments seeks a seasoned finance leader to oversee the organization’s financial administration, strategic growth planning, and compliance reporting to the CEO and Board. The Director of Finance will develop and implement plans to promote growth and asset diversification while ensuring fiscal responsibility.

Role overview
The position entails managing all financial operations, providing strategic guidance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and reporting to executive leadership and oversight bodies. This role requires extensive experience in complex financial environments and a collaborative approach to leadership and governance.
Responsibilities
- Advise the CEO and Board of Directors on all financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, grant and funding compliance, financial controls, and audit activities.
- Ensure monthly financial statements and GAAP-compliant reports, including GASB lease-related accounting, are prepared timely for review by the CEO and Board.
- Counsel the CEO, Board, managers, and staff on financial strategy, relationship development, new business lines, and diversification efforts.
- Monitor and manage cash flows and transactions, delivering balance sheet updates and financial reports to executive leadership and the Board.
- Collaborate with the CEO, Board, and operational leaders on budget preparation, forecasting, inventory procurement and management, and reporting.
- Supervise the finance department, providing training and performance management for staff.
- Act as primary liaison to internal committees, planning bodies, auditors, regulators, and examiners.
- Oversee payments to the Shareholder Pueblo of Santa Ana for all subsidiary entities, including tax income payments.
- Coordinate and deliver internal and external reporting and financial analyses on a timely basis.
- Serve as contribution accounting manager, producing metric analysis for pricing, product lines, and break-even assessments.
- Assist with internal, external, and annual audits by preparing materials and explanations and providing financial management tools as needed.
- Prepare all financial statements and regulatory reports, including income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, bank call reports, reserve reporting, and other regulatory submissions.
- Prepare, execute, and reconcile payroll, benefits, and employee tax reporting and compliance.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and oversee public and private funding, financing, and programs.
- Provide data-driven research, analysis, and insights to Tribal Nation internal structures, including meetings of the Tribal Council and other boards.
- Collaborate with insurance and risk management providers to maintain appropriate coverage and modern products.
- Coordinate with employee benefits providers and investment managers to maintain competitive benefits packages.
- Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures that ensure revenue, expenditures, and payroll integrity, with robust controls to prevent fraud.
- Oversee general ledger tasks, reconciliations, accounts payable/receivable, and fixed asset tracking.
- Maintain processes, policy analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Foster internal and external relationships to facilitate the smooth flow of financial information.
- Ensure staff receive timely training and development opportunities.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with Tribal Nation, federal, and state requirements.
- Represent the organization at community functions, business events, and trade associations.
- Coordinate administrative, financial, or legal matters with outside professionals as appropriate.
- Communicate relevant issues promptly to the CEO and other team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or equivalent experience required.
- CGFM or CPA license preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, GASB, and Tribal Nation codes and ordinances.
- Ten to fifteen years of senior financial leadership experience (CFO, Director of Finance, Comptroller, or Controller) in organizations with complex financial needs, including for-profit, nonprofit, government, or similar sectors.
- Five to ten years of personnel and management experience in similar environments.
- Experience with accounting software packages such as Abila MIP, QuickBooks, and Bill.com; familiarity with payroll systems (Paychex, Paycor, ADP) and online AR/AP platforms; and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Compensation
Annual salary range: USD 127,500.00 to 172,500.00, with a median around USD 150,000.00. Compensation is variable based on experience and educational qualifications.
Work hours and environment
Forty hours per calendar week, year-round; however, during field travel or major priority projects, hours may extend up to sixty per week.
