The American Dairy Goat Association is seeking a Director of Finance to lead core accounting operations for the organization. This regular, full-time role includes a full benefits package with health, life, disability coverage, paid time off, paid holidays, sick time, and a retirement plan, plus compensation of $75,000 to $95,000 per year. The position is based in Spindale, NC and may be eligible for a hybrid schedule.
What you’ll oversee
Reporting to the Association Manager, the Director of Finance will maintain the integrity of the Association’s financial reporting while ensuring GAAP compliance. Key responsibilities include reconciling general ledger accounts, reviewing and summarizing monthly financial results, preparing budgets and budget-to-actuals analysis, and coordinating key compliance deliverables such as the annual audit and Form 990.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Association’s financial reporting processes, delivering accurate, useful information to the right personnel in a timely and efficient way.
- Summarize and prepare monthly financial statements and transaction reports.
- Evaluate, develop, and analyze statistical and accounting data to assess Association performance and financial operations.
- Provide financial information that supports key business decisions, process improvement, and ongoing operational support.
- Monitor processes and controls related to cash, banking, and merchant account activities.
- Handle banking activity such as online deposits, voided checks, and bank wires, and resolve and record credit card charge backs and returned checks.
- Reconcile accounts and prepare journal entries to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
- Generate and evaluate budget to actuals; analyze financial statements for discrepancies.
- Lead information gathering, prepare documentation, and serve as a liaison with external auditors for the annual audit and Form 990 preparation.
- Draft the annual budget and revised budgets as requested by the Association Manager or Finance Committee Chair.
- Coordinate the audit with an outside CPA firm and work with the registered agent as needed regarding tax and legal documents.
- Develop, implement, and document established accounting procedures and processes.
- Coordinate the filing of the Association’s taxes and Form 990.
- Work with the Association Manager, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors to develop and implement a long-term investment strategy.
- Identify opportunities to improve office workflow and procedures to support customer service and efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 to 10 years of senior-level accounting experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- GAAP knowledge.
- QuickBooks accounting software knowledge.
- Understanding of internal controls and the external audit process.
- Ability to precisely reconcile accounts and prepare audit work papers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with the Association Manager, office staff, Finance Committee, and Board of Directors.
- Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and other finance, accounting, and payroll-related applications.
- Ability to identify issues and take initiative for process improvement and problem resolution.
- Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
- Experience in a team environment with a sense of responsibility for success, development, and improvement of the Association.
- Licensed CPA preferred.
- Non-profit and/or association experience is a plus.
- Experience with system implementation or conversion is a plus.
