Job Description

What you’ll do

  • Act as the primary advisor for client families, handling retirement income planning, Roth conversion analysis, Social Security timing, tax optimization, investment management, and estate coordination.
  • Meet with pre-qualified prospects coming through the firm’s marketing and referral network, learn their goals, and determine whether the partnership is the right fit.
  • Collaborate with an in-house CPA, EA, associate advisors, and paraplanners on complex situations so planning is supported, not isolated.
  • Contribute to improving processes, client experience, and outcomes as the firm grows.

Who you are

  • Active CFP® certification in good standing.
  • 3+ years advising affluent clients on comprehensive financial planning and investment management.
  • Strong working knowledge of retirement income planning for households with $1 million to $10 million+ invested.
  • Ability to explain an evidence-based investment approach and defend it in a bear market.
  • Clear communication and trust-building through competence, with an approach that starts by listening before advising.

Tools and platforms

You’ll work with MoneyGuide Pro, Holistiplan, Tamarac, Wealthbox, and YCharts, with custody through Schwab and Fidelity.

Compensation and growth

  • Base salary: $110,000 to $167,500 per year, depending on experience and the revenue you may currently manage.
  • Bonus: Quarterly revenue-sharing bonus tied to firm growth, generally 10% to 15% of base salary.
  • Unit appreciation plan: future qualification where you benefit from the growth of the company.

Benefits

  • 401(k) with 4% employer match.
  • Health, Vision, and Dental insurance.
  • Paid parental and maternity leave; dependent care FSA.
  • Generous PTO.
  • Professional development budget and ongoing training.
  • Charitable gift matching.
  • Hybrid schedule: four days in the Richmond office, one day remote.

Schedule and capacity expectations

  • Year one: approximately half your time meeting new families and half serving new clients as they join. As your book fills, the balance shifts toward client service.
  • Full capacity: about 100 to 115 households, supported by associate advisors and a service team. Most of your week is spent with clients you know well, with a smaller, steady flow of new introductions.
  • You will understand your capacity, and staffing is planned to match it.

Helpful, not required

  • CPA, ChFC, EA, or CFA.
  • Prior experience at a fee-only RIA.
  • Experience with MoneyGuide Pro, Holistiplan, Tamarac, or Wealthbox.

Hiring process

  • Apply with a resume and a short note on why this role, not just any advisor role.
  • 30-minute introductory call and short assessment.
  • Conversation with the CEO and Lead Advisor(s).
  • Half-day onsite in Richmond, including time with the team you’d work with.
  • References and offer.
