Job Description

Join the Financial Services Department at Michigan Medicine supporting the Pharmacy Department. In this hybrid role in Ann Arbor, MI, you will help strengthen financial reporting, develop process controls, and turn pharmacy and finance activity into clear, decision-ready insights. The position reports to the Finance Manager and includes responsibilities across budgeting, variance analysis, month-end activities, and ongoing reporting.

What you’ll do

  • Complete monthly variance analysis comparing budget to actual financial results.
  • Handle month-end journal entry responsibilities.
  • Update and create monthly financial reports, including graphs, charts, and other ad hoc reporting.
  • Build the annual budget for Inpatient Pharmacy areas and Research Pharmacy.
  • Monitor activity for the Inpatient drug area and develop and maintain reports as needed.
  • Partner with CDAs, Segment Leadership, and/or designated department leads to develop processes and stay current on patient population and new drugs.
  • Create workflows tailored to inpatient and/or administrative areas to support appropriate controls and help mitigate losses.
  • Communicate financial status and activity to the appropriate areas throughout Michigan Medicine and Pharmacy leadership.
  • Provide scheduled and ad hoc reports for drug level analysis related to medication purchases.
  • Create purchase orders when appropriate.
  • Conduct Recharge Rate analysis for the Research Pharmacy Team.
  • Provide backup support for other Financial Analysts supporting various Pharmacy areas.
  • Perform other analysis and duties assigned by the Finance Manager.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Intermediate level: 2-5 years of experience in finance, accounting, audit, and/or compliance, preferably in a University or Health Care environment.
  • Senior level: 5-8 years of experience in finance, accounting, audit, and/or compliance, preferably in a University or Health Care environment.
  • Experience with spreadsheet applications and analyzing/reporting data to identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement and find solutions.

  • Solid knowledge and experience in business, finance, or accounting.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work well with teams.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
  • Strong presentation and analytical techniques, plus computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office.

Preferred background

  • Business, Accounting, or Finance degree is preferred.
  • Experience working within Pharmacy is desirable, but not required.
  • Experience with Mpathways, Hyperion, Finance BI, and Business Objects financial software systems.

Work mode

Hybrid or mobile/remote work mode eligibility is determined by the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and may change at any time, and for any reason, throughout employment.
