Job Description

In EY’s Financial Services organization, this Private Client Services role centers on delivering high-quality personal and private tax guidance to business owners, private wealth stakeholders, and high net worth individuals and families. You will oversee complex tax processes from planning through execution, while advising on wealth transfer, governance, and multijurisdictional and cross-border matters.

Based in New York, NY (onsite), the position involves client engagement leadership, technical review of complex tax returns, and coordination with specialists across related tax disciplines to develop comprehensive solutions.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the delivery of tailored tax advice and compliance solutions for complex family and business structures.
  • Support clients with wealth transfer, succession planning, and governance strategies.
  • Address the challenges of multijurisdictional families and cross-border tax matters.
  • Review complex individual tax returns and provide income tax planning and advisory services to high net worth individuals and families.
  • Collaborate with specialists in International Tax, State and Local Tax, and Asset Management to deliver end-to-end client solutions.
  • Manage and deliver complex processes, solutions, and projects with a consistent focus on quality and risk management.
  • Own budget, delivery, and performance for complex workstreams to meet performance objectives.
  • Build and manage client relationships, including activities related to revenue generation and commercial relationship management.
  • Provide leadership and direction to teams, including Managers, across multiple activities to achieve performance objectives.
  • Use analysis and best practices to develop solutions for complex problems and contribute to thought leadership, meeting locally set performance objectives and metrics.
  • Manage client engagements daily, including planning, execution, and closure.
  • Research tax issues, translating complex information into client-ready insights and deliverables.
  • Maintain and expand technical expertise by staying current with tax developments and best practices.
  • Apply judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria; develop solutions for complex problems.
  • Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the immediate work area and possibly the wider business function.

Education & experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required (4-year) in accounting; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience in professional services or a professional tax organization.
  • Thorough understanding of estate and wealth planning.
  • Experience with federal and state personal and trust income tax.

Licenses

  • CPA license or Licensed Attorney is required.

Benefits and compensation

  • Comprehensive compensation and benefits package rewarded based on performance and recognition of value to the business.
  • Base salary range (all US geographic locations): $132,100 to $301,600.
  • Base salary range (New York City Metro Area, Washington State, and California excluding Sacramento): $158,500 to $342,700.

Analytical and decision-making scope

  • Perform high-quality review of complex tax returns.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience handling hedge fund and private equity K-1s.
  • Research tax issues to develop effective tax planning strategies and produce client-ready insights and deliverables.
  • Maintain and enhance technical expertise by staying current with tax developments and best practices.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria; develop solutions to complex problems.
  • Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures affecting the immediate work area and possibly the business function within the department.

Additional preferences

  • A proven record in high net-worth tax planning.
  • A proven record in a professional services environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience leading engagement delivery and managing engagement economics.
  • Ability to develop resource plans and budgets for large-scale projects.
  • Experience collaborating with senior management, including providing input on performance evaluations and hiring.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory compliance and advanced tax technology solutions.
