Job Description

The Senior Financial Accountant at The Ziegenfelder Company will oversee core accounting activities, including financial reporting, budgeting, and analysis, to support monthly closes, financial statements, and internal control improvements. This onsite role in Wheeling, West Virginia collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data and meaningful management insights that guide business decisions.

Overview

The position centers on financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, and analysis, with responsibilities spanning journal entries, close processes, and internal controls. The role also involves developing management reports, supporting audits, and mentoring accounting staff to uphold high standards of financial discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, reviews, and posts journal entries in line with GAAP
  • Supports the monthly close and reporting cycle, providing analytical insights and decision support
  • Reviews accounting records for accuracy, adequate documentation, and policy compliance
  • Contributes to the timely preparation and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, local management reports, cost allocation reports, and capital expenditures reporting
  • Develops relevant management reports that compare actuals to budget and historical trends
  • Actively supports the financial audit process
  • Supervises and trains entry and mid-level accounting staff
  • Prepares journal entries, reconciles and balances general ledger accounts, researches posting discrepancies, and provides accounting support for internal customers
  • Evaluates manual and automated accounting processes and systems for workflow efficiency
  • Leads process reviews and improvement initiatives and develops or enhances internal controls around key risks
  • Leads routine assessments of cost allocations to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Drives alignment and consistency within Sales, Operations, Engineering, Marketing and P&C, understanding needs and delivering tools and processes they can use
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Five to seven years of progressive accounting experience
  • Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and GAAP
  • Ability to work in a rigorous environment with shifting priorities and to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines
  • Strong cross-functional partnership, with relationship building, influencing, negotiating, and communication skills across all management levels
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) and experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and general ledger software
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical abilities
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional ethics and integrity
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Sound independent judgment and strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
