Senior Financial Editor

Briefs Finance is hiring a Senior Financial Editor to help run one of the newsroom’s busiest publishing engines from downtown Detroit. In this in-person role, you will oversee day-to-day financial news coverage on briefs.co and the daily Market Briefs newsletter, while also shaping how the team uses AI and how Briefs sounds across channels.

You will own editorial quality from first draft to final publication, balancing speed and accuracy across high volume. The role includes measurable goals for newsletter and site performance, plus a structured ramp-up period that moves from hands-on publishing to independent shipping.

• Salary: USD 95,000 - 110,000 per year, expected near the top of the range

What You’ll Own

• The news site: Publish roughly 100 articles per day on stocks, the economy, the Fed, earnings, and crypto on briefs.co.
• Market Briefs newsletter: Ensure the daily newsletter reaches hundreds of thousands of investors on weekdays at 7:30 am ET with audio live, every link working, and nothing broken. Continuously improve weekly via a referral program, one experiment per week, and a reader score target moving from 8/10 to 9.5.
• AI in the newsroom: Own how AI is used to research, draft, and check work, with ongoing monthly improvements.
• Voice: Serve as the final authority on how Briefs sounds across the site, newsletter, and the voice pass for Briefs Pro reports and advertorials.
• The big story: When an article takes off, publish follow-ups quickly and proactively.
• Sponsor copy: Write and quality check sponsor ad copy with the partnerships team so it fits the newsletter and readers always know what is an ad. Track ad click-through weekly.
• Newsletter operations: Manage send times, deliverability, list health, unsubscribe rate, and an ongoing email platform migration.
• Leads: Lead how publishing converts readers into leads, with monthly measurement from both the site and the newsletter. Emphasis is on traffic first, then leads.

First 90 Days

• Week one and two: Hand-write one Market Briefs article per day until ten are written.
• Day 30: Reach the site’s three daily content checkpoints and ship Market Briefs independently.
• Day 60: Set honest baselines for corrections, reader score, and leads from both the site and the newsletter, and ship one improvement to the accuracy filter.
• Day 90: Answer whether leads scale with article volume similarly to views. Keep one experiment per week, keep the referral program live, and ensure everything still ships while out sick.

Required Qualifications

• Not required to be a financial expert, but you must understand markets well enough to catch incorrect takes before publication, and a finance background is an advantage. Inflation and basic financial concepts are expected.
• Daily publishing experience: 3+ years writing or editing financial news, including at least one period where you were responsible for publishing on a daily schedule.
• AI workflow: Use AI every day and be honest about its strengths and limits. You can build a repeatable workflow rather than only prompt-based work (tools mentioned include Claude and GPT).
• Speed and care: Move quickly without sacrificing accuracy, even under volume.
• Documentation: Write things down, including deadlines, commitments, and what you learned when something breaks.
• Editorial ownership: You keep publishing quality high and respond early when stories take off.
• Editorial rigor: Reads multiple outlets in the morning to understand why coverage may be better or worse.

• A Series 65 or similar credential (they will sponsor it)
• Published bylines at a major finance outlet

• Profit share: Most of the team is invited into the company profit share after their first year. Historically paid $5,000 to $10,000 per quarter with no ceiling.

Work Location and Timing

• In-person in the heart of Detroit’s business district office.
• Not a remote or hybrid role.
• The newsletter goes out at 7:30 am ET; the market opens at 9:30, so the day starts early.
