Job Description

The Senior Financial Planner role at Boyum Barenscheer (Boyum Wealth Architects) is designed for an experienced planner who will lead comprehensive financial planning for sophisticated clients within a growth-stage RIA. This position includes direct client leadership, cross-specialty coordination, improvements to planning workflows, and the opportunity for long-term advancement.

Role Overview

In this onsite position in Minneapolis, MN, you will gather and analyze client information, develop and refine planning recommendations using eMoney, and help clients translate complex analysis into clear priorities. You will also support an elevated client experience through meeting preparation, documentation of decisions, and follow-through on next steps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive planning: Collect and review client data, develop and iterate plans in eMoney, model alternatives, and convert recommendations into prioritized actions.
  • Drive the client experience: Prepare for and participate in client meetings, clearly communicate complex concepts, capture decisions, and support ongoing follow-through.
  • Coordinate across specialties: Work with professionals across investment, tax, estate, insurance, and business advisory to ensure recommendations function as one coordinated strategy.
  • Manage relationships with judgment: Anticipate client needs, identify planning opportunities, maintain trust, and guide clients through consequential financial decisions.
  • Raise the standard: Improve planning workflows, templates, documentation, and service practices.
  • Contribute beyond the job description: Bring ideas, take ownership, mentor others, and help advance Boyum Wealth Architects over time.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in financial planning, wealth management, or an RIA environment, including meaningful client-facing responsibility.
  • CFP® certification required.
  • Strong planning fluency: ability to integrate retirement, tax, estate, insurance, cash flow, investment, and business-owner considerations into a single coherent strategy.
  • Confident client communication: experience building trust, explaining tradeoffs, and helping clients move from analysis to decisions.
  • Operational discipline: organized, accurate, responsive, and committed to follow-through.
  • Technology comfort: eMoney experience strongly preferred, with readiness to learn and improve modern advisory workflows.
  • Series 65 or qualifying designation preferred.
  • Builder’s mindset: motivation to influence the firm through growth and change.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Minneapolis, MN (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 110,000 - 150,000 per year
  • Minimum experience: 5 years
