Job Description
Build planning, forecasting, and decision support capabilities in a role that partners directly with the CFO and cross-functional leaders. At Acme Corrugated Box Co. Inc., this Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Analyst position focuses on turning financial and operating data into recommendations that improve profitability, cash flow, and operating performance, while strengthening the reporting and analytics foundation for the business.
What you’ll do
- Coordinate the annual budget and rolling forecast with the CFO and department leaders, documenting assumptions, responsibilities, and deadlines.
- Develop driver-based models that connect sales volume, pricing, product mix, paper costs, labor, freight, and plant capacity to earnings and cash flow; evaluate alternative scenarios and assess forecast accuracy.
- Maintain integrated three- to five-year financial forecasts, including pro forma income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections, using growth assumptions and documented operating, working capital, capital spending, and financing inputs.
- Create base, upside, and downside scenarios and perform sensitivity analyses, explaining impacts to profitability, liquidity, funding needs, and capacity; update projections as assumptions and conditions change.
- Produce monthly and year-to-date reporting versus budget, forecast, and prior periods, highlighting key variances, emerging trends, risks, and recommended actions.
- Develop executive-ready reports and dashboards for leadership, department managers, and operating teams; support management and Advisory Board financial presentations.
- Analyze contribution margin by customer, product, order, and machine where data supports reliable conclusions, including contribution per machine hour and constrained capacity usage.
- Evaluate pricing, customer mix, run size, setup time, and freight to quantify improvement opportunities and support Sales and management decisions.
- Support cash forecasting and analyze working capital drivers, including receivables, inventory, and payables.
- Assess capital expenditures and operating initiatives using payback, return on investment, and discounted cash flow as appropriate, and compare actual benefits with approved business cases.
- Partner with the Controller and IT to reconcile analytical outputs to financial records, establish consistent KPI definitions, and improve data quality from Amtech EnCore and other systems.
- Build and maintain Excel models and BI reporting, automating recurring analyses, documenting data sources and assumptions, and applying review and confidentiality controls.
- Use Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT to support financial analysis, modeling, reporting, and workflow automation, validating outputs against source data and meeting confidentiality and data security requirements.
- Prioritize new analysis requests with the CFO based on business value, urgency, and available data, completing special projects as needs develop.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Five or more years of progressive FP&A, cost analysis, or related financial experience, including meaningful exposure to manufacturing operations.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cost behavior, contribution margin, and working capital.
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, including integrated financial statement forecasting, plus experience extracting, validating, and combining ERP data.
- Fluency with AI tools, including Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT, with the ability to apply them effectively while independently verifying accuracy.
- Ability to explain findings clearly to nonfinancial managers, challenge assumptions constructively, and translate analysis into actionable business steps.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate with strong attention to accuracy and confidentiality in a newly established position.
