The Financial Applications Analyst acts as the Finance and Accounting functional owner and subject matter expert for PDI (company ERP), translating finance and business requirements into effective system configurations, controls, and workflows. This hybrid role supports finance-side testing, documentation, training, and continuous improvement across financial data, reporting, integrations, and reconciliation and treasury processes.
Role Overview
Serve as the Finance and Accounting subject matter expert for PDI Enterprise, optimizing configuration, workflows, controls, financial data management, reporting, and overall user experience. Partner with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, IT, and operational business teams to evaluate current-state processes, identify control gaps, and implement system solutions that improve financial accuracy and close efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Own PDI functionality as the Finance and Accounting subject matter expert, including configuration, workflows, controls, financial data, reporting, and user experience optimization.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, IT, and operational teams to gather requirements, analyze root causes and control gaps, and translate business needs into system and process solutions.
- Monitor financial application performance and data integrity; investigate complex interface, posting, reconciliation, and reporting issues and coordinate resolution with IT, vendors, and business owners.
- Establish monitoring and exception-management processes for key financial interfaces, including failure visibility, root cause, ownership, resolution method, aging, recurrence tracking, and financial impact.
- Lead Finance-side requirements, evaluation, selection, design, testing, implementation, and adoption of a reconciliation tool and a treasury management system (TMS).
- Manage financial application enhancements and upgrades from requirements through user acceptance testing, deployment, and post-implementation support, including development of test scripts and validation of results prior to production release.
- Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual accounting work, dependence on spreadsheets, and duplicate entry, while strengthening financial controls.
- Develop, maintain, and govern financial system documentation, including process flows, system configurations, integration maps, data definitions, procedures, controls, test evidence, and issue-resolution history.
- Develop and maintain Finance-owned reports, queries, data extracts, and analytical tools, validating reporting completeness, accuracy, and reconciliation to the general ledger and source systems.
- Support month-end and year-end close by ensuring financial applications and interfaces operate as expected, resolving system-related exceptions, and providing timely analysis of issues impacting financial results.
- Partner with IT on access, security roles, segregation of duties, change management, integrations, and system support, while maintaining clear accountability between technical ownership and Finance’s responsibility for financial requirements and validation.
- Coordinate with software vendors and implementation partners, manage open issues and enhancement requests, and assess solutions for business value, control implications, cost, and scalability.
- Train and support Finance and business users on financial applications, new functionality, standardized processes, and effective use of system capabilities.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to financial applications, system-generated reports, interfaces, change controls, access, and automated controls.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience supporting, implementing, or optimizing ERP or other financial applications; experience in an Accounting or Finance environment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting processes, general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to gather business requirements, map processes, test system changes, troubleshoot issues, and support implementations or upgrades.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to trace transactions and data across systems and distinguish system issues from accounting or process issues.
- Advanced Excel skills and demonstrated ability to work with financial data, reports, queries, and system-generated outputs.
- Strong project management, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and work effectively with Finance, IT, business users, and third-party vendors.
