Job Description
Join the New Jersey Courts in Hackensack, NJ as a Financial Specialist 1 in the Finance Division. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement with up to two remote days and a competitive salary range of USD 70,893 to 112,619 per year. You will support data extraction, financial reporting, audits, budgeting, and vendor payments, contributing to accurate and efficient court financial operations within the Bergen Vicinage.
Responsibilities
- Navigate legacy and proprietary systems to extract needed data.
- Prepare technical, statistical, financial, review, or evaluation reports.
- Interpret accounting, financial, or statistical data.
- Perform financial and internal control audits.
- Conduct financial audits for accuracy, compliance, or legitimacy following standards to maintain security or confidentiality.
- Analyze cases in accordance with existing laws, regulations, or professional practices.
- Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Review activities for adherence to applicable procedures, administrative directives, and laws/regulations.
- Compile statistical data on workload volume, unit expenditures, personnel actions, fixed assets, equipment, or attendance.
- Coordinate the collection, maintenance, and tabulation of accounting, financial, or statistical data.
- Perform variance analysis and determine actions to correct mis-posts, financial errors, or discrepancies.
- Prepare spending projections and develop operating budgets.
- Process vendor payments and employee reimbursements.
- Recommend improvements in operating procedures, programs, standards, work processes, or administrative practices.
- Participate fully in team meetings and special projects.
- Provide quality customer service to court users and internal customers.
- Function as a liaison and establish positive working relationships with other divisions, vicinages, central office, and external stakeholders.
- Treat all personnel, clients and the public with dignity and respect.
Requirements
- Meticulous, well organized finance professional with strong accounting, analytical, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls.
- Independent critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.
- Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Remote work
- The Judiciary offers a hybrid work schedule, with this position potentially qualifying for up to two days of remote work outside Judiciary buildings.
- Participation requires a multifactor authentication app installed on a phone or tablet and high speed home internet access.

- Driver's License: A New Jersey driver’s license is required only if operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties.
- Authorization to Work: U.S. citizenship is not required; the selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States under DHS/USCIS regulations.
- Background check: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check including fingerprinting, with information kept confidential.
- Residency Law: All newly hired Judiciary employees must establish and maintain principal residence in New Jersey within one year, unless an exemption is granted for hardship or employer critical need.
