Public Finance Attorney

Drummond Woodsum in Portland, Maine is seeking an onsite Public Finance Attorney to join the Public Finance Group, advising school and municipal clients on financial and business matters including bond counsel work, budgeting, and procurement, with public-facing duties such as attending meetings and presenting on public finance topics.

Salary: USD 106,000 - 142,000 per year

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance to public sector clients on financial and transactional matters such as local budget approvals, tax assessment, education funding, school reorganizations, construction projects, public bidding, and procurement.
• Navigate Maine's school budgeting process and prepare the related documentation.
• Act as bond counsel and issuer's counsel for school and municipal financings, handling state and local authorizations, tax compliance, and securities disclosure requirements.
• Engage in public-facing activities including attending board meetings, moderating town and school district voter meetings, and delivering presentations on public finance topics to school and municipal leaders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in corporate, finance, real estate, or other transactional practice; interest in serving public sector clients.
• Ability to learn and oversee compliance with technical state and federal laws applicable to tax-exempt bond issuance.
• Capacity to advise clients on a broad range of public finance and business matters.
• Willingness to participate in public-facing duties such as attending public board meetings and moderating voter meetings.
