Job Description
Join Altria’s Technical Accounting & SEC Reporting team to support technical accounting research, SEC disclosures, SOX compliance, and external reporting deliverables in a hybrid Richmond, VA role.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical accounting analyses for business transactions, including researching applicable guidance, assembling supporting documentation, and contributing to well-supported accounting conclusions.
- Prepare and review assigned disclosures and footnotes for SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 11-K.
- Collaborate with team members, finance functions, business stakeholders, and external advisors to gather financial and business information needed for assigned workstreams.
- Support assessment of new accounting standards and regulatory developments, including research, implementation readiness activities, and evaluation of impacts on reporting, disclosures, and internal controls.
- Help drive a strong control environment through support of SOX compliance activities and disclosure controls related to financial reporting processes.
- Develop clear accounting memoranda, technical analyses, and supporting work papers to enable effective review and decision-making.
- Use reporting systems, automation tools, and emerging technologies to improve reporting accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
- Support timely delivery of accurate external reporting through project management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Build productive working relationships across finance and business functions to address accounting and reporting needs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts focused on governance, process streamlining, and enhanced reporting capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA certification or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
- 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably including public accounting, technical accounting, SEC reporting, external reporting, or public-company financial reporting.
- Experience supporting SEC filings, financial reporting processes, accounting research, and technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements; ability to research, interpret, and apply guidance to business transactions.
- Exposure to SOX compliance, disclosure controls, and/or internal control activities related to financial reporting.
- Ability to prepare accounting analyses, technical memoranda, and supporting documentation for complex accounting matters.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including evaluating issues, identifying risks, and developing practical solutions.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities, deliver time-sensitive results, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience with financial reporting and enterprise systems, including Workiva and Oracle FCCS (or similar platforms) preferred.

Compensation
- Salary range: USD 91,500 - 132,750 per year
- Starting salary based on experience, knowledge, and qualifications in determining compensation decisions.
