Underwriter II, Financial Institutions, Financial Lines

Risk Specialists Companies Insurance Agency, Inc. is seeking an Underwriter II for Financial Institutions in Financial Lines to support underwriting within a structured, standards-driven environment in New York, NY (onsite). In this role, you will evaluate submissions, analyze risk and claims, and issue quotes and policies while working closely with clients and brokers to support profitable coverage and strong customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions for underwriting consideration.
• Identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, claims experience, and appropriate controls.
• Analyze claims and quantify losses to inform underwriting decisions.
• Apply underwriting guidelines and discipline to minimize exposure and price risk appropriately.
• Ensure underwriting files and services align with assigned-account standards and compliance guidelines.
• Offer coverage, terms, and conditions that support Company profitability while meeting customer needs.
• Capture market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts.
• Begin demonstrating technical expertise with products in the Financial Lines portfolio.
• Apply financial and analytical skills, critical thinking, and sound judgment to support confident decisions.
• Demonstrate success in negotiation and building collaborative relationships.
• Manage priorities with strong multitasking, time management, and the ability to operate within time constraints across a high volume of work.
• Coordinate with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority or requiring special handling.
• Engage in selling and negotiating to achieve bottom-line profitability.
• Make presentations and communicate risk appetite and the Financial Lines value proposition to brokers and clients.
• Contribute to development of producer strategies.
• Develop and maintain a submission pipeline aligned to production and business mix objectives.
• Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients, both internal and external.

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of underwriting or relevant professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to adapt in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and collaborate across teams, particularly on technical aspects, to deliver solutions quickly.
• Detail-oriented approach with demonstrated ability to self-direct, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Initiative on projects and assignments, including seeking alternate solutions when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range: $90,000 - $112,000 per year.
• Eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
