Job Description
Crispus Attucks Association in York, PA (onsite) offers a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive benefits program. The organization is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead financial operations, strategy, budgeting, reporting, audits, and risk management within a nonprofit setting.

Responsibilities
- Direct general ledger upkeep, payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, coordinate the annual audit, and review the IRS Form 990 and other tax filings
- Lead the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets and income statements, plus reports for the Board and external agencies as required
- Prepare and present financial updates for Finance Committee and Board meetings as requested
- Manage the accounting department, coordinate annual budget development, and oversee the annual audit with external auditors
- Establish and maintain robust internal control safeguards
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal budgetary and grant reporting requirements, with accuracy and timeliness
- Demonstrated senior leadership in financial management within nonprofit or governmental sectors, with supervisory experience
- Ensure all accounting and financial reporting practices comply with regulatory and third-party requirements, organizational objectives, and GAAP
- Oversee tax-exempt financing and other financings, negotiating favorable rates and terms while minimizing administrative burden and ensuring covenants are met
- Build and sustain relationships with financial institutions providing operating banking services, including checking, lines of credit, reconciliations, fraud controls, and online access
- Prepare and analyze cash flow, monitor cost controls and expenses, and advise the CEO and Finance Committee on potential weaknesses and opportunities for improvement
- Oversee the organization’s insurance and risk management program; collaborate with Human Resources to assess and maintain competitive, cost-effective benefit plans
- Collaborate with the Development Department on grants and funding requests to support fundraising growth
- Oversee Charter School pension plans and the organization’s 401(k), including annual census data and Form 5500 review
- Assist the Business Manager for the Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School and supervise related financial management activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Finance Committee
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or a related field required
- CPA and/or graduate degree (MBA or MS in Accounting/Finance) preferred
- Minimum of five years in a senior financial-management role, with hands-on experience across accounting, financial statement preparation, general ledger, audits, annual tax filings, payroll, benefits administration, and insurance, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Proficiency with accounting software to deliver accurate financial information
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and organizational abilities
- Ability to adapt to a flexible, fast-paced, diverse work environment
- Proven knowledge of ensuring accounting and financial reporting align with regulatory and third-party requirements (federal/state agencies, foundations, GAAP, etc.)
- Solid budgeting, forecasting, and identification of cost control opportunities
- Experience managing annual audits with outside auditors and maintaining internal controls, including coordinating responses to audit findings
- Board experience is preferred; capable of developing and executing financial strategies aligned with organizational goals to support sustainable growth
Compensation and Location
Salary: USD 110,000 – 140,000 per year
Location: York, PA, on site
Physical Demands
Primarily sedentary work with data entry requiring the use of both hands.
