Job Description
Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this onsite leadership role places you at the helm of a fast-growing engineering and construction firm. The Director of Accounting and Finance will oversee accounting, reporting, compliance, risk analysis, and strategic planning, leveraging IFRS and GAAP expertise to preserve fiscal integrity while enabling ambitious growth in a project-driven environment.
Salary ranges from USD 137,000 to 170,000 per year. This is an on-site, in-person position based in Tulsa (ZIP 74133).
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, job costing, project accounting, payroll, fixed assets, and month-end/year-end close processes.
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Manage project accounting for construction and fabrication contracts, ensuring proper revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion), cost tracking, work-in-progress analysis, and variance reporting.
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate external audits, tax preparations, and compliance filings; serve as the primary point of contact for auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions.
- Provide financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support executive decision-making and bidding/pricing strategies.
- Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships, and treasury functions to optimize liquidity for ongoing projects and growth initiatives.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, with potential future hires as the company expands, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, procurement, operations, and executive teams to align financial objectives with business goals.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes, including energy sector accounting, and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and reporting quality.
- Support special projects such as ERP enhancements, process improvements, and due diligence for potential partnerships or expansions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master’s degree or CPA certification strongly preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role (e.g., Controller, Director of Accounting).
- Proven experience in the construction, EPC, oil & gas, energy, or industrial infrastructure sectors, including expertise in project/job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, and contract revenue recognition.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and industry standards; familiarity with ASC 606 and construction-specific guidance is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Viewpoint, Deltek, or similar construction-focused platforms; ability to lead system upgrades or migrations.
- Demonstrated ability to build and scale accounting functions within a growing company.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
- High integrity, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
