What we offer
Onsite leadership at the Best Western Honolulu property under Highgate Hotels, with a clear emphasis on profitability, accurate reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. This Director of Finance role places you at the center of financial strategy, partnering with the executive team to safeguard assets and drive performance across the property. You will oversee cash flow management, budgeting cycles, and a compliant, well-controlled finance function while developing a skilled team within a respected hospitality portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Effectively manage and communicate cash flow related issues.
- Prepare and timely deliver monthly financial statements for the property, including cash flow statements; manage receivables, payables, cash balances, control mechanisms, and deposits of all funds.
- Monitor hotel revenues and expenses and ensure accurate recording in accordance with Highgate Hotels established guidelines.
- Oversee the hotel cash flow and operating forecast; create annual budgets and perform monthly variance analyses; investigate variances and propose practical improvement methods to management.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, and legal agreements, plus proper execution of all operational taxes; provide guidance to management in enforcing these requirements.
- Analyze financial data and operations to assist and advise management in achieving the hotel’s financial objectives; uphold standard accounting policies and internal controls.
- Timely review of balance sheet accounts, including monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
- Establish and continually audit internal financial controls covering purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, including collaboration with CPA firms and timely delivery of information requested by auditors.
- Hire, train, supervise and develop staff, including coaching, counseling and discipline as needed.
- Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels standards to ensure safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Direct or prepare financial reports in line with Highgate Hotels requirements and due dates, including weekly A/R & A/P aging, flash reports, payroll, and revenue updates; monthly financial statements, forecasting key statistics, and cash flow; and annual budgets, 5-year plans, and 5-year capital plans.
- Interact with the Executive Committee to keep property operations on track and under control at all times; monitor reporting deadlines and respond accordingly.
- Monitor the daily operating report for accuracy and timeliness.
- Execute other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of Hospitality Finance/Accounting experience.
- Prior Controller or Director of Finance experience, preferably at a premium-branded hotel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance or Accounting.
- Must supervise 2 or more employees.
- Proficient in Windows, company approved spreadsheets and word processing, and in operating hotel-specific systems.
