Job Description
Inside Out Wellness and Advocacy is hiring a Director of Finance for a hybrid role in Perry, IA (50220). This position offers $80,000 per year and the opportunity to help strengthen the organization’s financial stability while shaping strategic direction. You will lead finance operations for the mission, working in a professional office environment with routine computer and financial systems use, plus occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities
In this role, you will oversee all financial activities for Inside Out Wellness and Advocacy, ensuring strong controls, accurate reporting, and disciplined planning that supports organizational goals. Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and goals.
- Deliver financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership, including the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Own the annual budget, including forecasting and variance analysis.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and executive dashboards.
- Prepare financial statements, reports, and support audits.
- Coordinate annual independent financial audits, implement audit recommendations, and ensure compliance with GAAP.
- Oversee grant accounting, restricted funds management, and grant financial reporting.
- Support the financial aspects of fundraising activities and donor relations.
- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Implement financial controls and systems to monitor expenses, improve efficiency, and maximize resources.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, including auditors, banks, and financial advisors.
- Streamline financial processes and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy, and implement best practices in financial management and operations.
- Represent the organization in financial discussions with stakeholders.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Provide leadership, direction, and operational oversight for assigned accounting, billing, revenue cycle, and finance personnel.
- Support performance management, coaching, training, and operational oversight for the team.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 3 years of progressive financial experience.
- 2 years of progressive supervisory experience.
- Experience with accounting and financial management software such as QuickBooks and MS Excel.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting, budgeting, audits, and financial reporting using QuickBooks and MS Excel.
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining internal controls.
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience with EHR (Electronic Health Record) Systems.
- Experience within behavioral health, healthcare, crisis services, community behavioral health, or nonprofit organizations.
- Experience managing government grants and restricted funding.
- Experience presenting financial information to Boards of Directors.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Work environment and physical requirements
This is a hybrid remote position. The work setting is a professional office environment with routine use of computers, financial systems, and standard office equipment. Occasional travel may be required.
