Director of Finance and Facilities
Job Description
Summit Academy of Greater Louisville is seeking a Director of Finance and Facilities to lead the school’s finance and accounting function and oversee daily facility operations. This onsite role in Louisville, KY reports to the Head of School and works closely with the Finance & Facilities Committees and the Board of Trustees. The position also collaborates with the broader leadership team on special projects tied to the school’s strategic plan.
With a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 annually, the Director will manage budgeting, internal controls, reporting, tuition and financial aid processing, and key operational responsibilities across facilities and personnel. The role also supports regulatory compliance and coordinates audits, charitable gaming requirements, and insurance programs.
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain school financial records in line with sound business practices, generally accepted accounting principles, and the school’s corporate policies and procedures.
- Provide the Head of School, Finance & Facilities Committees, and Board of Trustees with recommendations, analyses, and information tied to school objectives.
- Develop and maintain a system of internal control, including automated and manual information systems.
- Produce short- and long-range financial projections to support planning.
- Direct all aspects of finance and accounting, including publishing monthly financial reports, projections, and analyses.
- Create and lead the development and implementation of the annual operating budget.
- Formulate action plans that support key strategic objectives.
- Manage tuition payments and financial aid awards through FACTS, including ancillary charges.
- Manage delinquent accounts.
- Direct and maintain the accounting system in QuickBooks and provide monthly GL reports to other school leaders.
- Prepare and oversee the annual 990 tax return and manage the annual outside audit process.
- Prepare and maintain reporting and applications for the school’s charitable gaming license.
- Manage the general liability insurance package.
- Supervise accounts payable personnel.
- Oversee daily facility operations and personnel, including the custodian and instructional technology coordinator.
- Negotiate contracts with third-party vendors.
- Serve as the direct point of contact for inspections, including the board of health and fire department.
- Oversee capital projects and facility rentals, including maintaining the internal rental calendar.
- Lead bi-monthly Facilities Committee meetings with the Board of Trustees.
- Provide direction in the management of the cafeteria.
- Oversee bi-weekly payroll through Paylocity, maintain personnel records, and conduct periodic reviews with the Head of School.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory filings, including 1099s, quarterly tax returns, and W-2s.
- Manage the employee benefits package, including health insurance and a 401K plan, and participate in the KAIS Finance Director group related to employee benefits.
- Manage the posting of job descriptions.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and systems experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems and opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Thorough knowledge of automated and manual information systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of Human Resources Management.

Job Type and Schedule
- Full-Time; 12-month position
- Daily schedule: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM (with 4:15 on 3 Tuesdays each month)
- Attendance expected at least 3 after-hours special events throughout the school year and graduation
