Job Description
The Finance and Accounting Special Projects Data Analytics Supervisor role at UPS is based in Atlanta, GA on a hybrid work arrangement. This position supports finance and project processes tied to mergers and acquisitions or disposals, leveraging data analytics to inform diligence, valuation, and reporting.
Summary
The role focuses on overseeing specialized data analytics for finance and project activities related to M&A transactions and related dispositions, ensuring robust processes and actionable insights that strengthen diligence and financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain finance and project workflows connected to mergers and acquisitions or disposals.
- Assist in extracting and evaluating financial data using tools such as Alteryx, Oracle Cloud, Excel, Projects, Copilot agents, and other data platforms to address queries.
- Establish scalable processes to streamline data analysis, record-to-report entry preparation, and project management.
- Analyze data trends and reporting patterns to add business value to M&A accounting and diligence activities.
- Assist in preparing consolidated financial analyses, reports, and journal entries through data analytics.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of project budgets and forecasts, including purchase orders and cost analyses.
- Review data and perform variance analysis on financial information.
- Periodically research and document GAAP treatments for transactions.
- Undertake related accounting controls and processes and assist with disclosures.
- Handle other project management and organizational tasks as needed.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external teams in a UPS environment.
- Apply problem solving and finance knowledge to surface insights and streamline processes.
- Communicate clearly in writing to senior audiences regarding data analysis and exploration of new ideas.
- Utilize statistical and relational data skills to create visualizations, dashboards, and reports.
- Support desktop diligence to identify and evaluate inorganic growth opportunities; analyze data from potential targets to convey the current state of business and finance processes.
- Evaluate business plans and synergy estimates to create databooks for discussions.
- Maintain organized records so the broader team can access project files.
- Compute deal-specific financial metrics to inform valuation decisions.
- Assist in producing deal-specific executive overviews describing transaction and valuation fundamentals for senior management.
- Assist with analysis of non-public information to summarize material findings.
- Plan and coordinate remote and on-site diligence activities to support target analysis.
- Work with the cross-functional diligence team to ensure coverage, timeline adherence, and summary of findings.
- Coordinate with external data room providers to ensure services meet project needs and material is accessible.
- Update the valuation model throughout diligence and post-diligence to reflect risk and synergies identified.
- Maintain data and documents to ensure accessibility for commercial, legal, and retention purposes.
- Assist in creating and monitoring final closing and post-signing checklists to ensure closing conditions are met.
- Support cross-functional coordination of transaction communications to involve the appropriate functions at each stage and ensure a proper hand-off to the integration team.
- Contribute to the financial month-end close and account consolidation processes to meet reporting deadlines.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts to ensure results reflect period performance.
- Provide supporting documentation to external auditors during audits.
- Apply standard GAAP and data analysis methods; propose improvements to practices in line with GAAP.
- Address project performance issues in alignment with UPS policies to promote teamwork.
- Manage project plans to ensure timely completion of tasks and appropriate risk management.
- Collaborate across functions globally within a hybrid office setting, coordinating live and virtual meetings to drive results.
Requirements
- Shows an in-depth understanding of complex financial data, interprets subtle implications, develops new analyses or models, and applies advanced principles to support strategic direction.
- Produces reports in appropriate formats using standard software, checks for accuracy, and identifies issues in report generation.
- Captures and documents precise information, studies subjects thoroughly, completes work with attention to detail, and maintains organized files.
- Can design new report generation or data analysis processes, identifies trends affecting retrieval and reporting, and creates standards for report maintenance and distribution; writes queries for ad hoc reports and templates for standardized reporting; develops macros to automate queries.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (or internationally comparable degree) is preferred.
- Experience with SEC filing and reporting is desirable.
- Strong preference for experience with data analysis and project management tools.
- Experience working in a Public Accounting Firm is desirable.
- Experience with unique and challenging accounting projects is preferred.
