Job Description
Smith Mandel & Associates, a tax and accounting firm based in Burbank, California, is seeking a Financial Accounting Supervisor to lead GAAP-driven financial statement analysis and reporting that informs tax planning and client advisory work. The ideal candidate will oversee the review of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and statements of equity while ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP and related standards. This role combines rigorous financial analysis with forecasting, client advisory, and cross-functional collaboration to support both compliance and strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret the core financial statements: balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and statements of equity.
- Verify that reports meet U.S. GAAP and applicable accounting standards.
- Spot variances, inconsistencies, and opportunities to strengthen financial health.
- Develop analyses, reports, and supporting schedules to assist with tax planning and compliance.
- Support financial forecasting, budgeting, and profitability evaluations.
- Assess client performance and offer recommendations to optimize operations and finances.
- Work with tax professionals to assist in preparing tax returns and planning strategies.
- Research accounting guidance and document technical conclusions.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes and reporting.
- Communicate key findings and recommendations to management and clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; master's degree preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or CMA are advantageous.
- At least five years of experience in financial analysis, public accounting, or a similar role.
- Strong expertise in U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation and analysis.
- Solid understanding of corporate taxation and financial reporting requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, or equivalent ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to manage multiple client engagements while meeting deadlines.
