Job Description
The Financial Specialist role supports the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin, TX. This position contributes to airport budget and financial operations, partnering with TSA Finance to analyze funding needs and monitor cost performance. The selected candidate will provide financial management expertise and technical guidance to airport leadership, helping ensure financial requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate with TSA Headquarters Finance Office on airport budget and financial activities.
- Conduct budget analysis, cost analysis, and cost scheduling and estimating to monitor airport funding and support budget requirements.
- Advise and provide technical guidance to Federal Security Director (FSD) management and the Administrative Officer on financial management matters.
- Review cost performance reports and cost estimates prepared by TSA Headquarters, analyzing results to track and validate airport funding.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status.
- Successful completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI).
- Selective Service registration is required.
- For the SV-H Pay Band (equivalent to GS-12): one year of specialized experience equivalent to SV-G or GS-11 in the Federal service, or equivalent private-sector experience.
- Experience credit is based on a 40-hour workweek, with no additional credit for overtime.
- Qualification requirements must be met no later than the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

How You Will Be Evaluated
- Participation in the USA Hire Assessment (computer-based) is required soon after submission.
- The assessment score accounts for 100% of the overall score used to determine best-qualified candidates.
- Candidates are rated and ranked as Best-Qualified, Well-Qualified, or Qualified.
- Meeting or exceeding the cut score is required; candidates scoring below the cut score or failing to complete the assessment will not be considered.
Required Documents and Application Notes

- If qualifying through a TSA detail: provide signed copies of TSA Form 1160 (Terms And Conditions For Temporary Internal Assignment -Detail) or SF-52 (Request for Personnel Action).
- If claiming VEOA or Veterans Preference: include a copy of DD-214 showing character of service.
- If claiming veterans’ consideration based on disability rating: provide a VA letter or disability determination from a branch of the Armed Forces.
- If claiming 10-point preference: submit SF-15.
- For current or former Federal civilian employees (non-TSA): submit a legible copy of SF-50, with block 24 containing a ‘1’ or ‘2’ and block 34 containing a ‘1’ or ‘2’.
- Provide responses to the vacancy questionnaire’s four short, free-response essay questions, each limited to 200 words or less.
- All required items must be received by 11:59 PM EST on the announcement closing date.

Compensation and Location
- Salary range: USD 92,023 to 119,633 per year
