Job Description
APS is seeking a Leader Finance & Business Operations (FBO) to lead the Finance and Business Operations team supporting T&D. In this Phoenix, AZ onsite role, you turn financial information into actionable business decisions across budgeting, forecasting, performance analysis, and financial support for engineering and asset management teams.
What you’ll do
- Lead and support Finance and Business Operations staff by providing direction and guidance to deliver meaningful financial insights.
- Oversee operating and capital budgets, forecasts, variance analysis, and financial performance measures.
- Partner with engineering and asset management teams to provide financial insight that supports planning and business decisions.
- Translate financial and operational data into clear information that helps leaders understand performance, opportunities, and potential challenges.
- Guide work planning and forecasting efforts to improve visibility into financial performance and future needs.
- Collaborate across the organization to strengthen accountability, operational efficiency, and informed decision-making.
- Supervise Finance and Business Operations staff and collaborate with business units on the utilization of corporate financial and business operations models to evaluate operational and financial scenarios.
- Oversee and direct the development of ad hoc models for unique scenarios or limited-scope analysis, including defining model inputs and processing data through financial and operations models.
- Ensure effective utilization of capital and O&M budgets, current work plans, and long-range forecasts, including analysis for high-impact business issues.
- Identify, recommend, and develop tactical and strategic analysis with Finance and Business Operations leadership and business unit management to reflect impacts of new regulations and market events.
- Oversee financial analyses supporting variance analysis, cash flow analysis, internal rate of return calculations, operating expense reporting, and related financial reporting and analysis.
- Provide direction in compiling relevant data and evaluating and reporting analysis results and processes.
- Lead compilation processes, perform variance analyses, and update business operations models and reporting to support business planning and initiative tracking, including gap analysis, metrics development, tracking, and benchmarking.
- Support cost tracking and reporting for major projects and power plant outages.
- Ensure appropriate risk factors are identified for business units or projects and incorporated into risk analytics within financial and business operations modeling for different scenarios.
- Challenge business unit assumptions and risk variables and recommend alternatives.
- Direct the design, development, compilation, presentation, and communication of financial performance report packages for management reporting, using existing technology and strong knowledge of business unit financial data.
- Ensure financial report packages and communications deliver relevant and impactful messaging.
- Partner with business units in the application and analysis of internal financial models.
- Drive continuous improvement within Finance and Business Operations and incorporate continuous improvement principles and practices into business unit partnerships.
- Select and develop a high-performing team through coaching, performance feedback, recognition, training, and developmental opportunities.
- Manage department programs and plans, ensuring compliance by monitoring and maintaining appropriate documentation, files, records, or systems.
- Maintain current knowledge of primary emerging issues facing the industry and APS-specific business needs.
What you’ll bring
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, or related discipline; MBA or Master’s degree preferred.
- Comprehensive financial, accounting, regulatory, and managerial knowledge.
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible business experience with emphasis in business planning, financial planning, modeling and analysis, forecasting, valuation and/or transactional due diligence.
- Leadership experience in a financial or accounting based management position is desirable.
- Demonstrated competency in financial reporting and modeling.
- Significant knowledge of regulatory trend developments in the utility industry, utility operations, and finance.
- Ability to manage a cross-functional team to develop an effective and efficient support system for the business unit.
- Ability to connect detailed trends and results to strategic implications across the organization.
- Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills; negotiation skills; and strong interpersonal and people management capabilities.
- Travel to local plant locations required.
