Job Description
Based onsite in Memphis, Tennessee, this Senior Financial Analyst role offers a clear pathway to influence budgeting and financial planning within the Department of College Career and Technical Education at Memphis Shelby County Schools. The position carries a salary range of USD 63,880 - 91,883 per year and requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field. You will focus on fiscal accountability, budgeting for general funds and grants, forecasting needs, and preparing budgets and fiscal reports.
Responsibilities
- Lead complex financial analysis to develop the annual budget aligned with strategic goals, support long‑term financial planning, and assist with the student based allocation effort.
- Provide strategic financial guidance grounded in forecasting and expenditure analysis.
- Monitor MSCS revenues, expenditures, staffing positions, and resource allocation.
- Partner with departments to establish and uphold sound budgeting practices and procedures.
- Assist in developing the MSCS annual operating budget and help departments resolve budget-related issues.
- Implement budget control functions across MSCS, including planning, preparation, and presentation of budgets.
- Apply appropriate strategies and problem‑solving tools to inform decisions on planning, fund utilization, service delivery, and service evaluation.
- Align budget decisions with MSCS goals and strategic commitments.
- Design, coordinate, implement, and maintain processes, systems, and procedures to ensure budget compliance tied to position control and FTE monitoring.
- Identify potential problems or opportunities to improve resource utilization.
- Support the executive team in organizational change and development by helping departments craft strategic plans, business plans, benchmarks, performance measures, contracts, and other continuous improvement initiatives; conduct process reviews and redesign departmental activities.
- Facilitate professional development of staff and serve as a mentor.
- Perform other related responsibilities as required or directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public or Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of accounting, finance, and/or budgeting analysis, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position.
- OR a combination of equivalent education and experience for a total of nine (9) years.
- Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required.
Degree equivalency formula: Bachelor’s Degree = 4 years plus required years of experience. Master’s Degree = 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
