Job Description

BMO Financial Group is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join its Equipment Finance team in Milwaukee. The role centers on analyzing credit information, structuring and monitoring loans, and supporting risk management and business development for Commercial Banking clients. This position blends rigorous financial analysis with client relationship development in a steady, onsite work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate loan structures and terms that balance client needs with the bank's risk appetite and policies.
  • Evaluate borrowers' repayment capacity using financial models and analytical tools to propose suitable loan structures and collateral requirements.
  • Authorize new loans, renewals, and extensions within approved authority.
  • Monitor the portfolio to detect deteriorating credit conditions and compliance issues, analyzing metrics and evaluating industry trends for risks and opportunities.
  • Assess portfolio performance and recommend capital allocation strategies to optimize returns toward investment objectives.
  • Lead proposal development and deliver presentations to win new business and expand client relationships.
  • Engage industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices.
  • Develop and implement business development plans aimed at strengthening client relationships and growing opportunities within the portfolio.
  • Build and maintain client relationships to support long-term financial performance in collaboration with the Relationship Manager and business partners.
  • Structure and support new, renewal, and extension loans aligned with client needs and bank and risk policies.
  • Perform financial analysis and risk assessments of clients' credit information for an assigned portfolio to provide insights and support decisions.
  • Continuously monitor portfolio performance for the Commercial Banking clients, taking corrective action as required.
  • Minimize risk exposure by adhering to credit policies, regulatory standards, and operating guidelines.
  • Serve as a point of contact for service requests, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded and escalating issues as needed.
  • Support and implement initiatives to enhance service quality, acquire new business, and expand client relationships.
  • Identify revenue and cross-selling opportunities to drive portfolio growth.
  • Identify share of wallet opportunities.
  • Leverage analysis tools to nurture and grow a portfolio that meets ROE targets and proactively evaluates client returns.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into BMO's systems and leverage the data to support decision-making.
  • Focus is primarily on the designated business group within BMO, with potential broader enterprise-wide scope.
  • Provide specialized consulting, analytical, and technical support.
  • Exercise judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within established guidelines.
  • Work independently and regularly handle non-routine situations.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Take measured risks while protecting the bank by applying the Risk Management Framework in line with our Risk Culture and approved Risk Appetite, making sound, risk-informed decisions that align with business strategy and comply with policy documents and regulations.

Requirements

  • Typically 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in credit, lending instruments, or financial operations within a corporate or banking environment.
  • Credit qualifications and associated knowledge aligned with portfolio requirements, as applicable.
  • Bachelor's degree is required; preferred fields include Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting. Related disciplines or commensurate work experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through education and business experience.
