The Bookkeeper and Finance Manager at BUF oversees the fellowship's financial operations, including bookkeeping, payroll, tax filings, reporting, and donor data management, coordinating with the Treasurer and Administrator to steward BUF's finances.
Responsibilities
- Process all transactions in accordance with the BUF Treasurer’s Handbook and GAAP guidelines.
- Receive, record, and deposit revenue to the Fellowship bank account; receive, record, and distribute in-kind contributions as appropriate.
- Utilize electronic funds transfer (EFT) technology to process payments; receive, process, record, and generate checks for approved payment requests (reimbursements, invoices, refunds and other accounts payable).
- Calculate, record, and remit Local, Federal and State taxes as required by law, whether monthly, quarterly or annually.
- Conduct monthly payroll processing for part-time, full-time and contract employees; track and provide W-2s and 1099s.
- Generate and process W-2s, 1099s, Federal Form 941, L&I quarterly reports, quarterly underpaid pledge statements, calendar year-end donation statements, and end-of-fiscal-year pledge statements.
- Maintain Fellowship databases, including membership transactions, program enrollment, and special event transactions.
- Collaborate with the Treasurer and Administrator on budget details and anomalies.
- Work with the Stewardship Team during canvass drives to process and record annual pledges.
- Coordinate with the Auction and other teams to process credit cards and delinquent payments.
- Maintain paper and electronic files for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Complete disbursements of special collections, monthly and as needed.
- Prepare requested documents/files for annual internal audits.
- Prepare and distribute semi-annual and annual Giving Statements.
Requirements
- 2-4 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.
- Basic computing skills with experience in Excel, Word and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with QuickBooks, relational databases, payroll processing and online bill pay.
- Experience with multiple systems and interfaces.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience.
- Nonprofit experience in fund management is a plus.
- Ability to understand and explain financial statements; experience working with budgets and supporting budgeting processes.
- Proven ability to operate in complex environments with many moving parts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented; able to handle sensitive information.

10 - 12 hours per week, Monday through Friday office hours.

USD 35 per hour, dependent on experience.
General description
The Bookkeeper/Finance Manager ensures timely, accurate processing, reconciliation, and reporting of all monetary and in-kind contributions to and from BUF. The role interfaces with volunteers, congregants and staff across the Fellowship and maintains databases detailing member pledges and other contributions.
