Job Description

The role is a Bilingual Japanese/English Credit Associate position based in New York, NY with a hybrid work arrangement. In this role, you will support the credit process for US subsidiaries of Japanese and/or Asian companies, including credit analysis and related documentation to prepare credit applications.

Role Overview

As a Credit Associate, you will analyze the credit profile of US subsidiaries by reviewing historical performance and supporting forward-looking projections. Your work will contribute to the preparation of credit applications and ongoing credit monitoring through portfolio reviews and credit events that may affect borrowers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis and research on borrower and parent performance to evaluate historical results and future projections, including cash flow analysis and risk capital calculations
  • Collect and organize support documentation to structure deals; coordinate with middle and back office teams for KYC purposes
  • Assist in drafting prescreen memos for the Credit Department
  • Conduct quarterly and annual reviews of the loan portfolio
  • Address system and procedural issues tied to borrowers, including internal grading and monthly/quarterly reporting, plus other ad hoc projects
  • Support credit events such as amendments, new originations, loan closings, and funding activities
  • Carry out sector, region, and loan-specific research and analytics; stay current with market conditions
  • Provide ad hoc reporting for management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, or Accounting
  • 5 years of corporate banking experience
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Japanese

Preferred Skills and Background

  • Formal credit training preferred
  • Corporate finance experience: 5 years (preferred)
