Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer provides financial leadership and decision-making to support the hospital's mission and strategic objectives, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, revenue cycle, capital planning, and financial analysis at North Knoxville Medical Center in Knoxville, TN (onsite).
Responsibilities
- Lead financial strategy across hospital leadership to foster ownership and decisions that improve financial performance.
- Design and execute revenue growth and margin enhancement strategies to meet financial targets.
- Engage in state and federal funding initiatives to optimize reimbursement for the facility and providers.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to analyze costs, operations, and service-line forecast data to track progress toward targets.
- Develop and enforce financial policies, procedures, and short- and long-range goals and plans.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities and lead actions to eliminate non-value costs with other senior leaders.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulatory guidelines and applicable standards.
- Collaborate with providers and local teams to monitor quality metrics and align them with financial goals.
- Oversee General Ledger accuracy and timely reconciliation of bank accounts with the ledger.
- Monitor cash receipts and disbursements for accuracy and internal control adherence.
- Prepare and present monthly departmental operating reports to staff and senior leadership.
- Prepare monthly exhibits detailing third-party reimbursement contractual allowances.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a business-related field is required.
- Master's degree in accounting, business administration, or healthcare administration preferred.
- 8 to 10 years of progressive healthcare financial management experience required.
- 5 to 7 years in a senior financial leadership role within a hospital or healthcare system required.
- 1 to 3 years of recent acute care hospital CFO experience in a proprietary health system preferred.
Technologies
- Experience with financial systems, budgeting software, and ERP tools.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare financial operations, revenue cycle management, and reimbursement methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to interpret complex financial data and drive strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Leadership and team-building capabilities to guide staff toward organizational goals.
- Proficiency with financial systems, budgeting software, and ERP tools.
- Commitment to regulatory compliance and maintaining high ethical standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Licenses and Certifications
- CPA certification preferred or CHFP certification preferred.
