Heritage Oaks Hospital is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the financial direction of the organization in Sacramento, CA. In this onsite, full-time role, you will oversee hospital financial operations and reporting while supporting hospital-wide goals around revenue, cost control, and reimbursement performance.
As the financial leader, you will manage key functions spanning accounts receivable, budgeting, profitability improvement, and policy development aligned with generally accepted accounting principles and corporate guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control accounts receivable to support cash flow objectives.
- Oversee Business Office activities to help ensure cash collection goals are met and net revenue is reported accurately.
- Facilitate a weekly A/R meeting with the CEO and Business Office Manager to review results and identify areas of weakness.
- Manage and optimize the relationship between the Business Office, Intake, and Utilization Review departments to maximize patient revenue.
- Improve hospital profitability.
- Continuously monitor costs across all areas, with particular attention to staffing in relation to patient volume.
- Track payor mix and length of stay to maximize reimbursement.
- Assist with negotiating contract terms with third-party payers.
- Prepare pro-forma analysis for new programs, contracts, and other initiatives to estimate outcomes.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of implemented programs, including physician arrangements, and determine success or failure.
- Develop and monitor policies and procedures that support sufficient cash flow, reduced operating costs, and increased revenues.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, financial packages, and other informational reports and analyses.
- Use account analysis, variance analysis, journal entries, and internal controls to produce detailed financial statements reflecting monthly operating results.
- Provide required reporting and support stakeholders by delivering reconciliations, account analyses, and related information for the Reimbursement Department, Tax Department, and auditors.
- Prepare the annual budget in conjunction with UHS standards.
- In collaboration with management and department heads, review prior financial results and discuss anticipated changes to highlight future needs and trends for the facility.
- Align hospital needs to UHS objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role in a healthcare setting.
- Bachelor’s degree minimum education requirement.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of hospital financial operations, including federal and local tax regulations, and the full range of business office, accounting, payroll, and administrative processes from registration through discharge.
- Ability to interpret financial analysis and performance information, including preparing schedules and reports from source data and compiling reports from others’ schedules.
- Proficiency with electronic spreadsheets and the ability to manipulate data within proprietary and acquired databases.

- Salary: USD 150,000 - 195,000 per year
