Chief Financial Officer
Job Description
The Chief Financial Officer serves as the principal finance advisor to the diocesan bishop and administers the diocese’s temporal goods under the bishop’s authority.
Responsibilities
- Serve as financial advisor to the Bishop and other diocesan leadership.
- Analyze major financial decisions and provide recommendations affecting the diocese, parishes, schools, and external organizations.
- Implement and evaluate diocesan financial policies and practices to support financial goals in alignment with Canon Law, diocesan bishop-established policies, and government regulations.
- Oversee planning and completion of the diocesan annual audit process in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
- Oversee administrative and operational functions of the Finance and Stewardship and Development Departments.
- Oversee planning and completion of the diocesan budget.
- Calculate cathedraticum and other parish assessments and fees.
- Oversee administration of diocesan pension plans and employee health plans.
- Oversee risk management administration, including property, liability, and casualty insurance coverage.
- Ensure funds are properly invested and managed; evaluate investment alternatives in coordination with the Diocesan Investment Council.
- Maintain consistent contact with diocesan constituencies, especially priests, parish staffs, and finance councils.
- Oversee internal audit and training functions and related reporting.
- Oversee system administration for the Pastoral Center’s information technology.
- Act as staff liaison to diocesan committees, including the Finance Council, Catholic Foundation of the Texas Panhandle, and Priest Pension Boards; participate in ad hoc committees as assigned.
- Manage relationships with bank and investment vendors.
- Provide Human Resource services as Director of Human Resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration/management, economics, finance, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of progressive finance and/or management experience.
- Expert financial knowledge, such as CPA, of accounting.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks and Sage Intacct.
- Knowledge of payroll tax regulations.
- Typing and literacy in commonly used computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to communicate effectively with priests, bookkeepers, and internal/external stakeholders.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in accounting, business administration/management, economics, finance, or a related field.
- Preferred: Working knowledge of Catholic Church structure and governance, including relationships among the Holy See, dioceses, parishes, religious institutes, and other ecclesiastical entities.

Compensation: USD 90,000 - 110,000 per year
