Job Description

Flagstar Bank is seeking a Credit Products Specialist I focused on Equipment Finance to support commercial credit activities across an assigned line of business. In this remote role, you will help drive underwriting and deal structuring, evaluate borrower performance, and support ongoing portfolio monitoring with an emphasis on sound risk judgment and compliance.

Role Overview

The Credit Products Specialist I - Equipment Finance supports underwriting, structuring, and management of commercial credit relationships within a specialized vertical or region. The position blends financial analysis with credit assessment to strengthen credit decisions, from initial transaction structuring through portfolio performance tracking.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist sales by analyzing financial statements, assessing borrower creditworthiness, and preparing credit approval packages within an assigned specialized vertical or region.
  • Monitor financial trends, covenant compliance, and borrowing bases to identify potential credit risks and recommend appropriate actions.
  • Collaborate with sales and credit teams to structure transactions, respond to underwriting questions, and support client needs.
  • Act as a mentor to analysts, sharing expertise in financial analysis, credit structuring, and risk assessment.
  • Stay current on market trends, credit policies, and risk mitigation techniques to strengthen commercial lending expertise.
  • Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions for an assigned portfolio.
  • Analyze and resolve issues related to the assigned portfolio.
  • Complete special projects and additional duties as required.
  • Maintain adherence to regulatory and compliance policies and complete required compliance trainings.
  • Be accountable for compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years in credit underwriting, portfolio management, or a related field.
  • Specialized line of business: 3+ years of experience in the direct specialized line of business (examples provided: specialized commercial industries, capital markets, corporate commercial banking, etc.).
  • Strong financial analysis and risk assessment abilities.
  • Basic understanding of loan structuring and credit agreements.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and credit decision tools.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including financial modeling, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP; familiarity with credit analysis software.
  • Financial acumen with foundational understanding of financial statements, key ratios, and credit analysis principles.
  • Analytical thinking to assess financial data, identify trends, and evaluate borrower creditworthiness.
  • Detail orientation to ensure accuracy in financial analysis, credit packages, and risk assessments.
  • Collaboration and communication with RMs, credit officers, and other stakeholders, with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Time management to manage multiple loan requests, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
  • Curiosity and learning agility to develop credit expertise, stay informed on industry trends, and apply new knowledge to underwriting and portfolio management.
  • ADA physical demands: No unusual physical exertion is involved.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $82,163.25 - $131,435.00 per year.

Enhanced Market Pricing (if applicable to your work location): $125,983 - $151,150.
