Job Description

Coastal Community Health Services is seeking a Director of Finance to lead its financial strategy from the Brunswick, GA onsite campus. This senior role governs budgeting, policy development, financial reporting, and internal controls, aligning financial activities with the organization’s strategic goals. The position offers a annual salary of USD 90,000 and requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.

Overview

The Director of Finance serves as a key member of the Financial Services team, charged with executing the organization’s financial management strategy and supporting long- and short-range planning. The role blends tactical oversight of accounting operations with strategic input on policies, metrics, cash management, and grant-related financial activities to sustain program performance and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Aligns with the organization’s vision, mission, and values while guiding fiscal initiatives.
  • Directs general accounting, accounts payable, purchasing, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Fosters a culture of high performance and continuous improvement with emphasis on learning and quality.
  • Ensures timely training and development for staff members; manages performance, priorities, and salary considerations.
  • Advises senior management on financial results, budgeting, cash flow, and policy matters.
  • Updates and enforces financial policies, internal controls, accounting standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinates and executes the annual budgeting process.
  • Leads the annual UDS reporting cycle and ensures accurate, timely HRSA grant financial reporting.
  • Provides analytical support to internal management, including the development of internal management reporting capabilities.
  • Improves administrative and operational accounting services including payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, treasury management, and grants payments as applicable.
  • Plans and conducts quarterly financial reviews with department heads to assess performance and reforecast as needed.
  • Supports external consultants with financial information for Forms 990 and other tax filings; ensures timely filing of internally prepared returns.
  • Maintains records of grants and prepares related financial reports.
  • Maintains the fixed asset system and coordinates annual asset inventory.
  • Handles confidential information with discretion and responds to employee inquiries in a timely, courteous manner; knows when to escalate decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field from a four-year college or university required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the ability to apply them in nonprofit finance contexts; familiarity with nonprofit regulations is a plus, with FQHC experience highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in guiding organizational change and development; mentoring and coaching experience across diverse teams.
  • Ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports as well as peers; self-reliant with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including tact, active listening, empathy, and conflict management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power Point, Word, and Outlook; advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software, Sage 100 preferred.
