Responsibilities
- Manage and communicate property cash flow matters, including accurate and timely preparation of monthly cash flow statements, receivables and payables management, cash balances, control mechanisms, and timely deposits of all funds.
- Monitor hotel revenues and expenses, ensure accurate recording per Highgate Hotels guidelines, and oversee cash flow and operating forecasts.
- Create annual budgets and monthly variance analyses, investigate and critique variances versus budget or prior year, and provide practical improvement methodologies to management.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory licenses and permits, leases, contracts, and legal agreements; support management in enforcing proper operational tax execution.
- Analyze financial data and operations to help management maintain the hotel’s financial objectives.
- Ensure adherence to Standard Accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for finance and accounting operations.
- Timely review and approve balance sheet accounts, including monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger reconciliations.
- Establish and continually audit internal financial controls across purchasing, cash handling, disbursements, inventories, hotel assets, master keys, payroll, and employee records.
- Oversee internal and external financial audits, coordinate with CPA firms, and deliver requested information on a timely basis.
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop staff through coaching, counseling, and discipline.
- Maintain compliance with Highgate Hotels standards and regulations to support safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Direct and prepare financial reports aligned to Highgate Hotels requirements and deadlines, including:
- Weekly: A/R & A/P Aging, Flash Reports, Payroll Reports, Revenue Updates
- Monthly: Financial Statements, Forecasting KeyStatistics Report, Cash Flow
- Annual: Budgets, 5-Year Plans, 5-Year Capital Plans
- Interact with Executive Committee members to keep property operations on track and under control.
- Monitor compliance with required reporting deadlines and respond accordingly.
- Monitor accurate production of the hotel daily operating report.
- Complete other special projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 5 or more years of Hospitality Finance/Accounting experience
- Prior Controller or Director of Finance experience, preferably at a premium-branded hotel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance or Accounting
- Must supervise 2 or more employees
- Proficiency in Windows, company-approved spreadsheets and word processing, and operation of all hotel-specific systems
