Job Description
Palm Beach Opera is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration to lead finance, accounting, treasury, budgeting, audits, and essential administrative and HR functions as part of senior leadership. This full-time role begins September 2026 and supports an $8M annual budget. What You’ll Own
- Oversee end-to-end finance and accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, cash planning and cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Ensure accurate financial transaction recording in line with GAAP, including oversight and approval of general ledger activity.
- Produce monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and maintain reliable reporting processes.
- Manage treasury functions covering cash flow, credit, and investments.
- Review and approve weekly payables and bi-weekly payroll.
- Prepare and present monthly financial statements, reports, and analysis for internal use and external stakeholders as required.
- Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with each department.
- Establish monthly and annual closing procedures to support dependable interim reporting against budget and prior-year activity, including year-end schedules for balance sheet accounts and annual revenue and expense activity.
- Lead annual audit preparation and coordinate required schedules for the federal Form 990, working with the external audit firm to support timely completion and filing.
- Ensure company processes and systems support internal accounting controls, compliance, and ongoing monitoring.
- Provide financial stewardship aligned with strategic and operational plans.
- Oversee insurance coverage, workers’ compensation records, benefit plans, payroll administration, and preparation and distribution of tax forms.
- In collaboration with the General Director, maintain and update the Employee Handbook and organizational policies.
- Maintain personnel files and assist with hiring and termination procedures as needed.
- Stay current on employment legislation and support compliance with relevant laws.
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience in financial analytics, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Accounting degree and proven expertise in not-for-profit accounting.
- At least three years in public accounting desired; CPA preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software, especially Financial Edge NXT.
- Financial Edge NXT experience is a key requirement; experience with Tessitura or similar ticketing and donor management platforms is preferred.
- Advanced Microsoft 365 skills (especially Excel) required.
- Strong prioritization and multitasking ability, with strong organizational skills, a solution-oriented approach, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
- Enthusiasm for the company’s mission and willingness to build understanding of company activities.
- Ability to work flexible hours for performances, including extended hours, evenings, and weekends.

Salary: USD 120,000 - 130,000 per year.
