Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

Vaco LLC is seeking a senior Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) professional to lead organizational financial planning and strategy in a hybrid role in New York.

Responsibilities

• Lead the annual organization-wide budget process, coordinating alignment across department heads
• Create dynamic financial forecasts, long-range financial plans, and scenario models tied to strategic organizational priorities
• Convert strategic initiatives into measurable financial and operational targets, key performance indicators (KPIs), and executive reporting frameworks
• Build, maintain, and enhance sophisticated financial models supporting resource allocation, capital planning, and key operational decisions
• Assess the financial viability, performance, and return on investment for programs, strategic projects, grant funding, and special initiatives
• Monitor historical performance alongside macroeconomic trends to shape short- and long-term financial strategy
• Produce executive reports, dashboards, and board presentations covering financial performance, key trends, risks, and growth opportunities
• Provide data-driven financial analysis to senior leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors
• Identify emerging financial risks and develop practical, solutions-oriented recommendations
• Advise program and department leaders by evaluating the financial impact of ongoing operations, donor funding/grants, and new initiatives
• Support development, rollout, and ongoing refinement of financial policies, planning systems, and reporting tools
• Lead ad hoc financial analyses, special projects, and continuous FP&A process automation and improvement

Requirements

• Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, corporate finance, or strategic financial management (nonprofit FP&A experience strongly preferred)
• Technical skills: Advanced financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting capabilities
• Tools: Deep proficiency with financial management systems, reporting software, and Excel/bi-tools
