Finance Director

The City of Tye is hiring an independent Finance Director to lead core city financial functions, reporting directly to City Council. This full-time, in-person role in Tye, TX 79563 supports long-term stability through responsible budgeting, accounting oversight, and grant administration, with a salary range of $60,000 to $70,000 per year (65-70K depending on experience).

In addition to taking ownership of the City’s financial direction, you will work with a benefits package designed for day-to-day security, including dental insurance, health insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, paid time off, and a retirement plan.

Responsibilities

• Develop, coordinate, and monitor the City’s annual budget.
• Ensure purchases comply with applicable state procurement requirements and City financial policies.
• Plan, organize, and oversee general ledger accounting.
• Monitor and evaluate sales tax and property tax revenues.
• Prepare financial summaries and forecasts for revenues, expenditures, and fund balances; provide monthly reports to the City Council.
• Prepare and submit documentation for federal, state, and local grants and reimbursements.
• Prepare requests for proposals for audit services, evaluate submissions, and present recommendations to the City Council.
• Coordinate the annual financial audit and assist external auditors.
• Apply applicable federal, state, and local accounting requirements.
• Attend the Monthly Council Meeting.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Three to five years of relevant experience.
• Experience with municipal budgeting.
• Grant writing experience.
• Strong knowledge of public budgeting and financial management.
• Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial auditing principles.
• Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), with an emphasis on governmental accounting.
