The position starts with a manageable portfolio and is designed to grow in both responsibility and compensation over time.
Location: Remote (remote)
Compensation: $40 - $75 per hour (variable compensation based on client portfolio and level of responsibility)
Experience: 5+ years relevant experience
What you’ll do
- Serve as the primary financial leader and trusted advisor for a portfolio of startup and small business clients.
- Build strong relationships with business owners and leadership teams by developing a deep understanding of goals, challenges, opportunities, and day-to-day realities.
- Own clients’ overall financial health, including financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, KPI development, and decision support.
- Provide leadership and oversight across accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, tax, and related financial functions, working alongside Cornerstone specialists and client team members.
- Translate financial information into practical insights and actionable recommendations in business language owners can follow.
- Support strategic planning by helping clients define priorities, goals, financial plans, and actionable roadmaps.
- Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and ways Cornerstone can improve clients’ performance.
- Step beyond a traditional finance function when needed to help solve issues related to operations, systems, people, pricing, processes, and strategy.
- Evaluate key decisions using both financial and broader business perspectives.
- Coordinate Cornerstone resources to ensure integrated, proactive support across the broader team.
- Hold clients and internal team members accountable to agreed-upon priorities, commitments, and action items.
- Develop your own capabilities as a financial leader and strategic advisor, including contributing ideas to improve Cornerstone services, systems, and methodologies.
- Model Cornerstone’s values by encouraging clients to build financially healthy, sustainable businesses that honor people and stakeholders.
Home services analytics and modeling
- Help clients understand and manage key economic drivers including revenue growth, gross margin, labor efficiency, technician productivity, pricing, overhead, and cash flow.
- Develop financial and operational reporting with visibility by department, location, service line, or other meaningful segments.
- Assist clients in defining and monitoring home services KPIs such as average ticket, technician revenue, gross margin, labor utilization, conversion rates, membership performance, marketing efficiency, and other operational metrics.
- Support job costing and profitability analysis to identify where clients are making and losing money.
- Build forecasts and financial models that account for seasonality, technician capacity, hiring, fleet investments, equipment purchases, financing, and growth initiatives.
What you bring

- Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis.
- Experience working directly with business owners, executives, clients, or other senior stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze a business, identify important issues, and turn financial information into actionable recommendations.
- Comfort operating in entrepreneurial environments where responsibilities may expand beyond a narrowly defined finance role.

- Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet skills.
- Comfort learning and using multiple systems, including Google Workspace, QuickBooks Online, Reach Reporting, Bill.com, Gusto, and related tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field (preferred).
