Job Description

The Financial Analyst role at Brown University focuses on developing and managing budgets, funds flow and reconciliation, and forecasting for a designated portfolio of departments and programs. The position acts as a subject matter expert for central and program finances and supports financial training and policy implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Development and financial management of budgets, funds flow/reconciliation, and forecasting for an assigned portfolio of departments and/or programs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service in financial management, budget development, and implementation of policy and other changes as they arise.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert supporting both central and program finances and assist with financial training for the supported departments and programs.
  • Monitor the financial capacity within each distinct program while maintaining a broader understanding of divisional finances.
  • Act as an SME for assigned areas, perform ad hoc analyses for ongoing or future programs, and carry out administrative responsibilities related to cost center management.
  • Oversee the annual budget and projections.
  • Manage financial operations and ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to new initiatives and business development efforts.
  • Engage in general administration with a focus on service excellence.

Requirements

  • A degree in accounting, finance, economics or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required; experience with financials and structures in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of complex financial models, record-keeping, and the ability to develop new systems and procedures.
  • Experience and proficiency in developing spreadsheets and integrating data sources for analysis and operational support.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
