Financial Analyst - Project Controls
Job Description
Phoenix Fabricators and Erectors is seeking a Financial Analyst - Project Controls to support financial and operational performance on long-duration elevated water tower construction projects. This hybrid role in Avon, IN focuses on cost tracking, forecasting, budgeting, and analytical insights, helping project and finance teams maintain visibility and accuracy across every phase of work.
You will act as a bridge between project management, field operations, and finance, strengthening cost control through reporting, variance analysis, and process improvements. With a clean, climate-controlled office environment and a sedentary desk-based setup, this role is built for someone who enjoys structured analysis and clear stakeholder communication.
Responsibilities
- Monitor project budgets, commitments, actual costs, and forecasts across engineering, fabrication, coating, and erection phases.
- Track and analyze cost drivers, including material, labor, subsistence, coatings, equipment usage, and subcontractors.
- Perform cost-benefit analysis and prepare financial reports to support decision-making.
- Create weekly and monthly job cost reports, including percent complete versus percentage of cost incurred and estimated cost to completion.
- Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders to support transparency and effective communication.
- Conduct variance analysis and identify risks such as weather delays or productivity issues.
- Monitor and analyze project schedules to ensure proper task sequencing and efficient resource allocation.
- Support budgeting and project setup by maintaining baseline cost structures.
- Analyze shop and field labor productivity metrics.
- Collaborate with estimating, project managers, superintendents, and accounting teams.
- Develop dashboards and improve project control systems.
- Analyze credit card spending for policy exceptions and other anomalies.
- Perform overhead cost analysis by department and type.
- Contribute to project margin improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or Construction Management.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in construction, structural steel, or industrial projects preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with ERP / job costing systems (Sage 100 preferred).
- Familiarity with Power PI or Tableau is a plus.
- AI integration and workflow implementation (not required, but preferred).
- Process automation with AI tools, Power Automate, or equivalent (not required, but preferred).
