Financial Controller
Job Description
This role owns the firm’s day-to-day financial operations, with a primary focus on project accounting and consistent management reporting for the owner and an outside financial adviser.
Financial Operations
- Own the day-to-day financial operations of the firm
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
- Maintain the general ledger to support financial integrity
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Coordinate payroll
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare financial statements
- Coordinate with the outside CPA on tax filings and compliance
Project Accounting & Analysis
- Lead job costing and project-based accounting using Deltek Ajera
- Deliver project profitability reporting and support revenue recognition processes
- Track project budget versus actual labor and expenses
Management Reporting
- Produce a consistent management reporting package for the owner and outside financial adviser
- Run monthly reporting including P&L, balance sheet, and cash-flow updates
- Report cash position and assist with cash-flow forecasting
- Provide accounts receivable aging and collections reporting
- Report WIP and unbilled revenue
- Present revenue versus budget and forecast
- Analyze project profitability, including gross and net margins
- Monitor labor spent versus project budgets
Systems & Process Improvement
- Build and refine management reports
- Streamline the month-end close process
- Improve project-level financial visibility
Requirements
- 8+ years of accounting or finance experience
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience
- Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar hands-on financial role experience
- Experience in an architecture, engineering, design, construction, or other project-based professional services firm
- Strong project-accounting and job-costing experience
- Solid understanding of GAAP and professional-services revenue recognition
- Strong Excel and financial-reporting skills
- Experience producing management reports, not limited to maintaining accounting records
- Experience with Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vision/Vantagepoint, or a comparable project-accounting ERP system

Compensation & Benefits
Salary: USD 80,000 - 125,000 per year, based on experience.
