Job Description

In Lincoln, Nebraska, HBE LLP is seeking a Financial Operations Manager to lead financial reporting, accounting operations, and risk controls from an on-site office. The role directs the finance team, shapes formal policies, and drives governance and operational excellence across the organization’s finances.

This in-office position requires a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in financial and accounting functions. The successful candidate will oversee comprehensive financial processes and provide strategic financial support to leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Maintain data integrity across financial records and reporting systems.
  • Track key performance metrics such as work in progress, AR aging, cash flow, realization, and expense trends.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Support the preparation and compilation of annual industry surveys and benchmarking reports.
  • Develop, document, and maintain formal accounting policies and procedures.
  • Establish standardized workflows for billing, collections, expense reimbursements, and cash handling.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and documentation standards.
  • Identify financial or operational risk areas and propose corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, GAAP standards, and professional requirements.
  • Lead the annual budgeting cycle and monitor performance against the budget.
  • Prepare forecasts and variance analyses.
  • Provide modeling and analytical support to inform leadership decisions.
  • Support leadership with financial planning initiatives as requested.
  • Oversee cash management, bank reconciliations, and relationships with banking partners.
  • Monitor working capital and cash-flow trends.
  • Maintain controls over disbursements and electronic payments.
  • Oversee financial systems and accounting software, including integrations with practice management tools.
  • Evaluate and implement automation and technology improvements.
  • Ensure data security and integrity within financial systems.
  • Oversee payroll processing and benefits accounting.
  • Coordinate multi-state registrations and payroll tax filings to ensure timely submissions.
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, payroll reporting, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with firm insurance policies and related vendor contracts.
  • Coordinate the provision of information for annual external audits.
  • Support documentation needs for governance and leadership reviews.
  • Supervise and mentor the finance department staff.
  • Establish performance standards and accountability measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Minimum five years' experience performing financial and accounting functions of varying complexity preferred
  • Proven experience developing financial policies and procedures
  • Experience within a public accounting firm strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
