Job Description
The Principal Financial Analyst is a strategic leadership role based in Los Angeles, California with partial telework potential, driving financial planning, analysis, and related initiatives to advance the Court's mission. This position collaborates with executive leadership and judicial officers to deliver data driven recommendations and innovative financial solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise staff engaged in complex financial analysis, budgeting, and program administration activities.
- Conduct advanced financial, operational, and organizational studies to support Court initiatives and strategic decision making.
- Demonstrates ownership by delivering complete staff work, independently managing complex assignments from inception through implementation, and ensuring timely, high quality results with minimal oversight.
- Develop, implement, and monitor financial programs, policies, procedures, and performance measures.
- Analyze resource needs, evaluate cost benefit alternatives, and recommend process improvements for operational efficiency, applying sound judgment and change agility aligned with the Court’s Strategic Plan.
- Prepare and present detailed financial reports, recommendations, and technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders, effectively conveying complex information across varying levels of expertise.
Compensation
Monthly salary range: USD 8,170 to USD 11,312.
Requirements
- Option I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university with a major in public or business administration, public policy, economics, finance, or a closely related field, and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience involving financial management analysis, economic forecasting, financial planning and/or implementation, or governmental budget and finance analysis.
- Option II: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience involving financial management analysis, economic forecasting, financial planning and/or implementation, or governmental budget and finance analysis, plus an additional four (4) years of recent experience providing complex analytical work in support of accounting, financial, statistical, contract, budget, or other management analyses.

Telework eligibility
This position may be eligible for partial telework following an initial training period and contingent upon the needs of the Court.
Desirable Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of public sector budgeting, financial forecasting, accounting principles, reconciliation procedures, and financial analysis methodologies.
- Proven experience leading complex projects, programs, or organizational studies in a government or court environment to improve efficiency, accuracy, internal controls, and customer service.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills with the ability to interpret complex regulations and policies.
- Experience leveraging data systems, analytics tools, and financial technologies to improve accuracy, efficiency, and insight generation.
- Commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement with demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including staff development and performance management.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information clearly and persuasively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Experience leading or participating in technology initiatives, including system enhancements, software implementations, testing, user acceptance reviews, and process redesign projects.
